Most auto part stores can load test a battery to determine if the battery is still good and a cheap volt/ohm meter can determine if the alternator is working correctly. If you know how to unlock the OBC you can see what kind of volt the alternator is putting out while the engine is running.

When you say unlock the obc do u mean bridging pins 7+8?
Or is there another unlock?

Unlock the On Board Computer (OBC) is to unlock the features that are a part of the car computer, not the diagnostic cable/software that you are using to read the DTC. There is plenty of info on how to unlock the computer just do a search on this website.
