They did after it got clogged up and I drove it. I have only driven it about 100 miles so far but it appears to be ok. It is still at the transmission shop as they are booked for another few days and they will look at it next week on that part.

Once it is driveable again the shop is going to change the oil again for me and pull the pump to make sure there is not anything left. The oil has been changed 5 times since it got clogged updue to all the issues.

It runs very well now and I would expect that since it was driven and then unclogged and the oil pan was pulled that it should be clean now.....I hope.

Yes, RACINGBMW there is a chance the engine is shot completely but it was only run without full pressure for about a mile. However, it was enough to take out two lifters and a head so anything is possible.

I am taking a chance with it but I expect to have it gone before that happens. It seems to be running great, but I have not had it more than 24 hours since the end of October so tomorrow will be a good sign if it is still running. HA! Anything that happens soon the shop will have a hard time dismissing as their fault.

Time will tell and hopefully it won't be mine then. Too bad, I really loved this car and searched for some time to find all the options.
I thought I had a good reason for asking about head work at the time but I have no idea why now. oopsie.

Whistle '03 4.6is complete engine overhaul

I'm in the process of rebuilding my 4.6is engine. It'll be a complete engine out rebuild - dropping the complete subframe, tranny, transaxle and front suspension. Just started getting the parts list put together. I'll post the spreadsheet over the next week or so.

I'm hanging onto the car AND the original motor / tran - becuz - well - it's an Alpina X5 4.6is triple black - and i can't think of a more fun vehicle to drive during the winter!! Besides - in another 8 yrs - it'll be VINTAGE - and it gives me PLENTY of time to get it ready for the The Vintage 2027 !! https://xoutpost.com/images/smilies/stickpoke.gif

The X5 4.6is at The Vintage? I have never even thought about that but clearly you have. You should plan to do that and then watch the E36 guys still being pissed because those will not still be allowed in.
