Blackstone Reports
I had an oil sample pulled last week. The report, along with one I had done last Summer on my son-in-law's 2001 3.0L X5, are attached [its mislabeled as a 4.6]. I replaced the air filter and checked the seal on the airbox coincident to the oil change - glad I did, given this report. The old filter didn't look terrible, but did have some dust/dirt in it. This serves as a reminder to monitor your airbox and not scrimp on changing the filter. The iron numbers are some concern; I included 300ml of LubroMoly oil treatment in the last change and hope it, and another short interval change [5k recommended by Blackstone] with a bottle of the LubroMoly 'motor clean' run for 20 minutes before the change, togethere with the new air filter, will get the numbers where I would like them to be for a 7500m oil change interval.
For you three pedal types, I also had a sample pulled from my manual transmission. I'll post its report when received.

Wonder what the high iron numbers could be from. Have you checked the intake boot for leaks as well as the DISA o-ring, if you have a slight vaccuum leak it could be letting dirt in and be giving the high silicon.

Intake boot looked good, but I'll recheck and investigate the DISA o-ring, too. This is why I like to do Blackstones on a 'new to me' vehicle .

I'm sure the Lubro moly additive helped some what and your next OC report will be better. I know for a fact that my engine internally is cleaner after 3 oil changes and 13k miles in the 2 years I've owned my 5-speed, as you know I'm an 8 quarts of T6 man.
I'm guessing you use OEM filters?

OEM [Mann] air and either Mann 925/4 or Hecht oil filter - OEMs. No codes thrown or history on the sellers' review pre-purchase indicating a DISA leak problem, but a good tip to check its o-ring/gaskets ....... since I don't have a service history showing a DISA fix [unlike the replaced CCV], I may have to spring for the GAR [?] fix as a preventive measure come spring weather ....

German Auto Solutions, and sure I'd do it preventatively, for $80 the kit comes with a new o-ring and is easy to install.

I think I'll try a fill with the Pennzoil Euro Ultra 5w30, which touts higher detergent than the MobilOne 0w40 now in the crankcase, at the next fill, along with a larger dose of the Lubro Moly in the oil; its labeled as 300 ml for 'up to' 6 qts, so I may increase the dosage. I'll also recheck the airbox and intake for leaks. Given vehicle age, if the G.A.S. DISA kit is an easy install, I may do that preventive fix as well. Is there a post/thread with the DIY for that install? I've seen the video, looks straightforward. As suggested by Blackstone, I'll do another short interval [at 5k or so] and a test.
