I also hope all is well. Some invaluable info posted for M62 e53ers.

I had a thought though on the trans failsafe prog error you were getting stunt... as I am getting the same error from time to time. In my case it is from low voltage (as Phil had mentioned)... due to oil leaking all over the damn alternator. I have to degrease my alternator/engine once a month to keep my alternator "alternating" lol. It can help to keep a trickle charger on the battery as when my alternator acts up it tends to not give over 12.5v for at least 5 minutes. Then it will suddenly kick in (I guess the oil is warmed up or cleaned off a vital component of the alt, maybe the regulator) and provide 14+v.

Once it "kicks in" the alternator is good for the whole day usually, but I have a sneaking suspicion that if I never degreased it and the engine... it would kill the alternator in a hurry and I'd be in more of a situation that you were in. IE: getting the error more frequently... cold, hot, etc. I now travel around with a multi meter in the car just to check the health of the alternator... sad but true.

After reading your thread (all 45 pages now), I am tempted to pull the N62 in mine to do all the maintenance that I had planned to do to it while in the car. Seems like it might be worth it to pull it... not that it makes me look forward to the jobs.

Where's @stunt ?

His last Activity was on: 09-10-2015 09:20 PM therefore he might be alright, as far as his X5 only he knows, maybe he parted out the whole thing.

@Stunt please let us know what's going on with you.

I was wondering the same with Weiln12 getting close to doing a similar job. Hopefully Stunt is out enjoying his ride, but I'm missing the mechanical porn he had been providing!

Hey guys,

I'm still alive.

Haven't had time to mess with the X5 for quite a while. Been busy with my "normal" job and family with 2 girls ages 3 and 4, and other projects.

So things are pretty much how I left them. So next step it to check out the rest of the tranny clutches, order rebuilt kit, and then get it put back together and hooked back up to the engine and get the whole assembly back up into the chassis. X5 still sitting on the lift and the bay next to it is still filled with front end parts, and the back of the bay next to it still has all the tranny pieces spread out on that nice worktable I built. I have checked on the exposed tranny parts from time to time, and not a spec of rust. Still coated with oil I guess. Everything just has multiple layers of dust on it.

I hope 2016 will be the year. I really miss driving it!

glad you replied. I was already thinking bad thoughts that something happened to you. Glad you are ok. I too have a 2 and a 4 year old. My personal time does not exist anymore.
