Are you kidding me?

Do I really have to spend $250 for a spoiler brake light? 2001 3.0. My kingdom for a sweet E32.

No reason NOT to consider finding a used brake light. Years ago I saw an advertisement for a local salvage yard with the slogan "All cars run on used parts". Our beloved Bimmers should be no exception.

On my E34 Touring I was able to replace several of the bulbs instead of having to buy the entire lamp assembly. However, you needed to source the bulbs and know how to solder.

North fork.......that's just my "serious face", at my age it kind does what it wants.
I jumped to the conclusion that the light had failed. So going back to logical troubleshooting, with a little encouragement, I tested the wires an found a stressed hot lead on the back of the LED where the factory put some very tight 90 degree bends in it to anchor it to the light. Wire was broken there. A little solder and a splice put it back in service. Should have used logic not assumption for diagnosis. Thanks all!
