Remove the engine acoustic cover. Locate egr valve on intake (at front). Pull vacuum line from egr valve and plug line. Replace acoustic cover. Is your turbo issue exactly the same as before the manifold was replaced? It's possible the boost control modulator (next to turbo) isnt working - they are known to fail and cause low boost at low rpms. I checked mine when I replaced my manifold, as can be seen in my write-up.

.As for actuator no idea mechanic didn't check..x went in for manifold change although i did mention power loss at lower revs too, guess my fault for rushing him into doing manifold as wanted car asap before school runs on monday ..dunno fella tempted to leave it , but as you say acoustic cover yup can get that off..vacum pipe comin off the egr now i looked it up i guess can unplug from egr and plug line and see..i will revert sure...gotta say garage cleaned up engine good and proper though...looks good at least

I have not noticed any power issues since my fuel filter problem which was posted elsewhere. The one thing I can say I never hear is any Turbo noise, but if I ask for get up and go it happens with plenty of G-Force into the seat and sometimes a few clouds of good ol diesel grey plumes out the back.
If I listen to the Petrol Turbo die hards with their blow off valves, you can definately hear them spool up and then blow off. X5, nothing so audacious! That brings me to asking, should I hear it? Should I treat is as old school turbo's and leave it running for a period of time after highway speed driving? Is it worth putting a turbo timer on it? Cheers, Jeff |

I am developing power from the get go if I want to put my foot to the floor from a standing start. It does show how short those six speeds are in the first three and I'll guarantee diesel smoke if I do that , but at the price of Diesel here in Aus, I settle for gentle pedal work. I've got my computer reading as 8.6/7 for combined driving now and refiling backs that up.
To be honest, most people do not even know it is a diesel unless I start it, that is the only time it is a give away. Inside it is completely quiet and those following do not smell the usual diesel fumigation that runs along behind. I guess everything must be working OK on it. I do have an issue when I chase consumeables for it though, I have to give the VIN and several places have said I have an E70. The manufacture date on the VIN plate is 11/06, so every part has to be cross checked with a visual image before purchasing. Some are E53 and some are E70 we have found out. I just keep making notes in the Log Book for future reference. Good luck with finding that hissing you spoke of...here we would be worried it was a snake in the warmer times of the year |

I get a small "whoosh" getting OFF the throttle when it's been boosting hard, i.e entering a fast corner on an uphill run.. it's the turbo reducing boost suddenly and the excess boost hits the compressor wheel - it's called turbo flutter.
Totally normal.

I reckon you are pretty darn correct, it was when easing off pedal I would get whoosh or a low key wheezing noise now that I come to think of it....mystery goes on until i get it to a mechanic
