I usually buy NGK plugs from local stores such as Advance Auto, Autozone etc. bc they sell thousands of plugs every year. Chances are their plugs are genuine NGK.

Also, the local price is almost the same as online.

Yep, you can always count on the Chinese to figure out a way to fake something that has a high volume and where $$ is involved.

They took a regular plug, copied the logo and created a silk screen print to copy onto standard plugs (cost of plug - $1 USD) and created a $8 plug! They sell on ebay to idiots looking for cheap parts. Knock offs are a multi Billion dollar business coming out of China. Consumer products are the best to copy as you hit hard, flood the market, and go bye bye, when the poop hits the fan. Come to any trade show and you will see a group of them walking the aisles seeking a new opportunity.

Not just EBay. Amazon too. Put what I thought were iridium in. Pulled them a few months later and the electrodes had melted. Not supposed to happen. Made a comment on the seller that was selling them and Amazon pulled it. I replaced them with ruthenium plugs. I got them from an actual auto parts store. No more on line plugs from unknown sources for me.

Does get scary when the distribution chain gets contaminated with knock offs. You just go up the line and you will find someone purchased a "Deal" and off it goes. The good news, is the the knock off b*tches have direct selling models now using front companies/websites in the US who distribute that crap.

Purses, parts, household products, processed foods, hard parts, you name it they make it.

I use only well established named distributors for all parts now days. The odds of them wanting to trash their business for a few percentage of additional profit is a lot less than a retail junk site that sells clothes and auto parts...

Even worse, my NGK Iridium's didn't last and I bought them them at Canadian tire which is a pretty big chain by Canadian standards. They where packaged paired in NGK bubble packs instead of boxes and less money so I should have been more suspicious but everything looked legit. After they started failing (I got burned by 2 or 3 sets of these before I figured out what was going on!) I had a closer look and sure enough even though they seem to be legit NGK the bubble pack ones say on them "made in the USA with parts from Japan" while the cardboard box ones bought elsewhere say only "Japan." Canadian tire is famous for having things manufactured for them by reputable brands and putting their name on them. For example their "Motomaster" spark plugs are actually made by "Champion" and they advertise that letting the customer think they are getting the same quality but they are NOT. In the case of the NGK Iridium it seems that this has gone one step further and NGK is making a cheaper version and leaving their name on them! Don't get me started on wheel bearings!
