Lifespan is better. Heat is obviously reduced to damn near zero. Rear end gets an upgrade as well, much more modern in the rear IMO. I can take a night pic if you wanted but they are readily available on the ebay auctions, just search "E53 LED tail light"

On your facelift Riggo, you will need capacitors wired in as well, as I did, because 2003-2006 got adaptive brake light feature. Email [email protected] and get a pair pre-wired for $20 as I did, so you won't have the flickering effect from adaptive brakes.

Let me know what else you need man, basically the LED tails solve the problem because there are no longer any circuit boards to burn up on the housings!

The melt problem with OEM lights/bulbs, which calls for the plastic repair in the article I linked earlier. As I look further, it appears RB and others have installed the aftermarket replacement light units w/LED bulbs. I was thinking it was just a replacement bulb fix, coincident to doing the repair.

I think I understand it now. Is the preferred solution the spyder housings I see in an earlier thread, but with LED bulbs? I see a set on amazon for around $150, as well as a replacement aftermarket OEM knockoff for $78 for one side ..... I would do the pre-wired capacitors if I go that way. Better back up lighting would be an improvement .....

Riggodeaux, it's the whole assembly replacement when we are talking about LED taillights, not just the bulb swap. If you need help from local, let me know.

Thanks, guys. I may take a shot at fixing the board in the original [since I already have a replacement on the right side] before buying the LED version for both sides and adding the capacitors.

I'm with Ricky Bobby, got tired of doing all the other "fixes". The only true fix is replacement with LEDS. Look better, last longer, ZERO maintenance!
