Stretched bolts visible with "naked eye". I would use stretch gauges & micrometers for rod bolts and the like. And I would also change bolts when doing a head gasket. I think the tolerances in those areas are really critical. Most of us 4 x 4 these road warriors on the pavement in the city. If you will drive it in the woods, then new big as* bolts might make you feel that fuzzy warm feeling.

This is rapidly turning into a "the oil I use is best" thread... very rapidly.

Calling it as you see it is great. They way you word your calls is confrontational and that reflects very poorly on you. I've forgotten your position when it was clear you were ranting.
With 25 years experience at anything I think you are aware your approach is ineffective and counter productive. I will say it is entertaining. I can't wait for your response to this.

My favorite materials are the transuranics. They keep my hands warm.

Move along. Nothing to see here.

I've ALWAYS replaced TTY fasteners, EVERY time!

As the "yield" in the name implies, the fastener has been tightened to the point where material has deformed.

Reuse only results in a failure prone fastener.

Mate if that's what you think, good for you. Another persons opinion is neither within my control nor any of my business.

What I object to is people slinging arrows, then getting all precious about the result, and I get labelled with things such as "confrontational".

And then there is my "wordiness". I don't scrimp on words and take as long as I feel necessary to make my point. Which, for whatever reason, people like you thinkis "ranting". The way you interpret something is all on you buddy, don't try and hang it on me.

Good thing I'm not after anyone else's validation.

That's not surprising at all. Let me boil it down.

Don't shitpost, add value.

If you are going to attempt to discredit, the burden of proof is on you to counter. Not demand reverse engineering to prove BMW's design was sufficient. Here is some basic reading on bolted connections, it might help. http://www.egr.msu.edu/~harichan/cla...e405/chap5.pdf

The point of this forum is to collaborate to solve issues on our X's. That only works when all parties show up to discussion and contribute.

You have made your objection clear many times. There are lots of ways to disagree with another. I acknowledge that have been some arrows slung at you. My recollection is they were return fire. IMO you have as little to back up your position as anyone else and being insistent you do is irritating to others. Validation, in the form of being respectful of others is a necessity in this world to get along. That is especially true in social media because we don't know each other and can't see body language. You might try writing posts like the ones you enjoy reading. I suggest comments like confrontational, wordy, ranting will go away.

Now with 185,000 miles total and 85,000 miles later and ZERO issues with using the same bolts. I've never touched them again and ZERO issues. I can purchase more gunpowder and primers to reload more shells for my 42 weapons and have fun with that instead of pissing away money just because BMW says to.
