MAYO, Oil filler and CCV tube and cleaning with Break parts cleaner
My CCV has been replaced by a thief Uh!! sorry i mean mechanic and i believe that it was the cold climate type as it was insulated however, he did dot replace the oil dipstick to the updated one. So Long story short, when take off the oil filler cap I see the MAYO in the cap (Very cold weather here in Winnipeg -30C) then I suspect that if there is mayo in the Crank case then definitely the hose running down the ccv unit will be no different. And after pulling the accessible hose end (upper end part of the hose) the one connected to the crankcase cover I saw that It has MAYO buildup in it. I noticed that in the oil filler cap a few squirt of the a Brake parts Cleaner does the job of taking out the mayo. Here is the question I have for you guys I need help with. With the hose that is leading to the CCV unit (The one attached in the crankcase) I am going to pull that end and clean it with the brake cleaner to take out the MAYO. The Brake parts cleaner will of course drain down the CCV unit and then to the oil pan? is that a good move or a bad one? my objective here is to at least get rid of some of the MAYO. Please advise, thanks |

Bad move, brake cleaner is a solvent and will break down the oil in the crankcase.

Get the new dipstick (from dealer - $$$), do an oil change, replace the dipstick (easy) and you should be set.

What I do is clean any visible ''Mayo'' with a rag and a little WD40. I spray a bit in the crankcase where there is Mayo and dip stick and on the CCV hose that connects to the VC then clean with a rag. Also when I go out even on short trips I always open the oil cap and let it cool down that way to prevent condensation. I leave the cap open for a few hours. That seems to help a lot with the mayo forming.

I don't envy you guys living in those cold climes... our "cold" here is like 25 degrees. Never had any mayo in any of my BMW's unless it needed a head gasket. Hah and then it's more like coffee than mayo.

Thanks guys, to be honest My e53 is really in trouble right now, it is in the garage getting fixed by my mechanic (Which is starting to loose my confidence) The mayo thing is at the moment is the least of my concern. My car is not starting nor the starter cranking. I will post anot help thread for this so as to get the proper thread going. Thanks guys again.
