Angry My Bmw x5 2005 kicks realy hard

Hi,
I recently bought a 2005 Bmw X5 4.4i xDrive and sometimes when i brake almost to a stop and i accelerate right after (smoothly) the car kicks realy hard like someone just hit me from behind. Also after i refueled it, as i was pulling out of the gas station, the car just stopped-the engine shut off. I put it intop Park and started the engine again with no problem. Can anyone tell me what night be the cause/causes? Thanks

The 'kick' is the transmission slamming into 1st gear upon throttle appliation after doing a rolling stop.

My transmission was replaced under CPO for this.

Some people have found that resetting the transmission adaptations can help (search here -- QSilver has posted the procedure). Some people have reported decreasing the severity by changing out the transmission fluid (procedure also available in this subforum). However, changing the transmission fluid has its own risks so read up first. You'll want to use the appropriate Lifetime6 fluid (I'm guessing your transmission).

What engine do you have, the 3.0 or the 4.4 (or 4.8)? Put the details of you X5 into your signature please, it helps when we're remote diagnosing issues.

It's a 2005 BMW X5 (E53) 4.4i 315 hp Xdrive. I just bought it dont know much about it, i got it on a sweet deal and did not ask too many questions lol.what other info do you need. It's also my first bmw and i love it. The guy assured me that he replaced the battery and alternator 2 weeks ago (after i paid him, so he had no reason to lie, i think).

Same issue with mine. 2005 4.4 - I had the transmission control software updated maybe 30k miles and 3 years ago. Made a huge difference for me. It rarely happens now and is no where near as severe when it does happen.

I will try that too...also when i start it cold it sometimes went into transmission failsave prog. I "reset" the tranny using that technique with keeping the gas pedal down and it seems it hade worked coz the error is gone

I also used to get a "slow creep" kick - like when you're rolling through the grocery store parking lot - real slowly. It'd grab a gear (2nd?) with a very abrupt shift. Problem gone now.

Mine hit so hard that it felt like I'd been hit by a truck. BMW kept my X for a few days on the computer and came back with the decision to put a new (rebuilt) transmission in.
