License Plate Bulbs - Looking for Dimmer LED Options

Don't understand the appeal of these super bright LED license plate bulbs and so with that being said I'm looking for LED options that are on the dimmer side, maybe around the same output as OEM. I have a bulb out and like the look of the LED white temp color so I started looking for just a white colored 6418 standard bulb but haven't had much luck as everything seems to be LED.

Anyone have experience/suggestions with what I'm looking for?

I would like to know how to remove the bulb as well since mine needs replacing.
All i seen have been LED as well. Sometimes auto parts stores have those small bulbs in blue tint, give that a try.

Owners manual I think shows how to remove the lamps. I think it's the same as the puddle lights and glove box. You will likely not find a darker solution but all you need is some gray film such as the throw away sunglasses from an eye doc visit to dim it down without changing the color

BMW has made OEM LED versions now that arent as bright as aftermarket versions but i do believe they are more towards the halogen color aka yellowish

Seems like this may be a dumb question/statement but can't you just swap them out for an LCI set or are they halogen as well?

Just looked up and compared the two different parts and the connectors are different so OEM LED units don't look like they would be swappable.

OEM retrofit is the only option - trust me, I've tried everything.

Seems like it would be more of a hassle to change out the connectors instead of just finding some not so bright 6418 LED bulbs. Do you actually do the retrofit? If so more details on what was involved would be great.

These, or any other bulbs don't live long due to overheating.
