2012 X5 50i Msport transformed, H&Rs, 22's

Hi all. Just wanted to share an upgrade we did on a new arrival to our inventory. A 2012 X5 50i Msport had the boring winter 19's and it just screamed for a make over. Heres a few "befores"....

And AFTER, H&R 1.2 spring kit, Staggered 22' Niche Targas 22x9s w/25mm offset on 265/35/22s in the front and 22x10.5 with 20mm offset on 295/30/22s in the rear. Looks pretty nice if we do say so ourselves. Full pics can be seen on our website if anyone is interested, message me.

Looks great! I am also going with the Targas but in 20s. Hows the ride with the 22s? Those side walls look pretty slim for the roads in my area, wish i can do 22s, looks so much better.

Thanks, it is a very nice looking rim especially in the 22s and really makes the truck now. I cant stop looking at it.

The ride is much better than I expected actually, especially with the lowering springs. The roads arent that great around here either, just being very careful and avoiding any potential hazards as much as possible. But I wouldnt have it any other way! I love the look with the 22's.

Good luck and post some pics once you get yours.

Puny little rotors....funny how the whole 'big rims' thing was driven by the desire to stuff larger rotors and calipers under them...now people think the big rims themselves are the performance upgrade.

Summer rubber?

Contact a mod about becoming sponsor if you are going to advertise too.

Ever heard of that saying....how does it go? "if you don't have something nice to say....."

Performance Upgrades come in stages depending on how far you want to go and what you're looking to achieve. Big wheels look good that's why people want them. Plus suspension upgrade makes it handle better. You don't need big rotors until you start adding horsepower so there's no need for that just yet. But can add those too if you like. Yes summer tires because it comes with snows on stock rims.

Funny saying. But this isnt finishing school.

IMO 'big wheels' look moronic on small little rotors. My point was that people started doing this for performance- and then after a while they lost sight of the reason and the "look" became "the thing". For me form follows function- but you and others seem to think that big rims and rubber band tires is somehow "a good look".

The drive for bigger rims was fueled by race cars and the up-sizing of brakes- people saw this technology and it looked cool- the form followed the function...you saw a fast car with big rims and low profile rubber and it was ready for business....but the public became confused and now think big rims is a performance increase in and of itself. Heck, Porsche engineers fought with US marketing over the 18/19" rims in 2005. Marketing won and the stock rim was 19". On a 997TT you take off the stock 19" and go to an 18" for track use. Low profile tires just skitter around too much.

Oh, you dont need more brakes until you add more horsepower!?!? I guess someone told you BMW has engineered that car to balance braking and HP? Id guess thats true if a 'lap' is school- groceries- home....Take that puppy to a road track and you WILL run out of brakes pretty damn fast.

Even taking rough roads and potholes out of the mix, those 30 profiles will perform worse around a track than 50s. Id put money on that. Just not enough sidewall to allow the contact patch to maintain uniformity. Tooling around, not pushing it, not using the tires near the edge of adhesion- Id say the handling on smooth roads will be OK. Even you say you need to be careful driving around...thats INSANE for an SUV. But, I guess this is about looks and not about actual performance.

Finally, you're poaching on this site selling used cars without sponsorship. Id prolly be more polite to someone that wasnt a selling used cars, or I guess in this case a "truck".....

Ard - the guy is not tracking the x5 or racing it in any way, we all know why big wheels were required in the performance world, you sound more old-school and thats fine. I like well fitted 15 inch wheels and i like well fitted 22 inch wheels, they all have their purposed look. I love these wheels and the drop on this x5, i think its tastefully done, just like you like smaller wheels. We all have different tastes.

Asilee - Seeing that how you are trying to sell a vehicle from a dealer, i agree that you should read the rules about that but if you are just showing it off then thats fine by me.

@Ozer, I believe that Ard answered what he was trying to establish in the referenced quote...

Everyone has their own opinion. You are entitled to yours. But I don't recall anywhere having said that this was a performance upgrade. For as long as I can remember, a wheel upgrade was the best bang for your buck and usually the first place anyone started with upgrades on their cars. You may have different experiences or opinions especially if your coming from a track or race background. And yes it's not going to the track anytime soon. And I'm not poaching or trying to sell used cars. I actually saw a post on here with a similar e70 that some one did a Vorsteiner set up and drew me to these style of wheels as I was looking to upgrade the look. So I figured I would share as well. Damn me if the vehicle is also available for sale and I mentioned it. I see that in nearly every other post.
