Bad decision to buy 100k 4.8?

Well, I did it.

I pulled he trigger and purchased a new '08 4.8 with 100k miles fully loaded for $14,500, 20" wheels and all.

The real question, is this:

I have 5 days to return it and after reading endless pages on here I am starting to feel like it's absolutely inevitable to end up spending $10k more in repairs in the next year or two as I cross this major mile mark.

I can handle some DIY and an Indy can obviously do a couple thousand in repairs, but I would love to hear about some of the most common problems from owners of 100k+ 4.8 e70's.

For those of you with high mile e70's, what went over 100k?

I've sold a few x5s in the 100k+ range I've yet to have any issue. Go for it, sounds like a pretty great price too!

Internet forums are a great place to scare yourself. While its def good to be aware of the potential issue this car can present it doesn't mean you will exp all of these issues.

A lot of people come to forums for help with their problems. Not a whole lot come to say my car runs great no issues whats-so-ever.

I would look over the engine top to bottom for oil leaks.

valley pan area,
valve covers
area around alternator

remove the plastic under tray and everything should be dry.

it's a great riding and handling SUV.

$11k worth of warranty work done on my '08 48i in its six months of ownership. Dealer replaced the trans and did the valve seals. That said, the trans could have been repaired for much less and the valve seals weren't really an issue yet. I honestly wouldn't sweat it but these aren't cheap cars to own by any means.

Just make sure there's no oil leak and coolant leak then u should be good to go. Also change the trans oil if u can. They are due at 100k.
