Let me know how it goes with the install.

I used INPA to diagnosis the Parking Brake Malfunction problem and it gave me an error code of 6023 Power Supply. I did some searching and it's possible that the pins on the electrical connectors of the EMF control module is burnt caused by a bad low voltage battery. I have replaced the battery, but haven't had time to check the connector.

I'm almost positive the problem was caused by the battery and NOT the new AutoHold switch.

Hi guys I have a 3.0d E70 but previous to that was a Range Rover sport both of which have the pain in the ass that is electronic parking brake. I had many issues with mine on the RR sport (big surprise) lol. but after lots and lots of research into them it seems its better to use them normally as you would a cable operated handbrake the trick is to have the shoes cleaned and adjusted and serviced properly as 90% of the issues are due to poor adjustment
or lack of use and all the gubbins inside the drum seizing and getting jammed up.
The X5 brakes are very similar so as long as they are regularly used and adjusted properly every 6-12 months they should go on indefinitely. of course the dreaded park brake malfunction may pop up and if you take it to a stealer they will no doubt try to relieve you of quite a few hundred £/$ of your hard earned money but normally plugging it into I diagnostic machine will sort the issue out, there are unjam procedures then once its unjammed just have the shoes off cleaned greased and adjusted all good. anyway hope this help alleviate some of the anxiety some people seem to have about electronic park brakes.

you have no clue what you are talking about. The E70 applies the parking brake by itself, so there is no issue with it not being used.
Apart from that, the main issue that people encounter is a broken EMF switch due to the plastic becoming brittle, or a faulty EMF module itself. I have had those two issues, and have never had to adjust the parking brake in over 9 years of ownership with currently 196k km on the old girl

I accept there may be other causes such as yours but not all X5 e70 com with auto hold so those are not regularly used with auto cars most folk sticking it in park and walking away I know my wife never uses it and in my experience as I had the dreaded pb malfunction light it was due to poor maintenance and all that was required was new linings and properly adjusted.

I think my point was that although people fear these epb they are really quite reliable as long as they are maintained

Auto hold applies the regular brakes at a stop when the engine is on via the DSC, not the parking brake. It only engages the EMF module on shut down, the exact same as when you shut down the car, the parking brake comes on.
Since the parking brake is used every time you shut down the car, it does not suffer from lack of use. This is the default behavior on the E70

Guess that explains why it seems the brakes are sticking sometimes when I first put the car in reverse in the mornings sometimes.

Im used to bmw's rusting the pads to the rotors so I just figured that was it but it didn't seem like the usual rust problem but more like the brakes were sticking for a second or so since it releases without force.

Stuck pad to rotor needs persuading to let go and this doesn't.

Good info. Curious though, is there any point in pulling the parking brake just before shutting the engine off like I always do if it's going to engage anyway? Or am I misunderstanding something?

When I turn the car back on, maybe I won't have to release it? Can't remember the last time I didn't actually pull it - just habit now.

oooOOOoooo. Mx E70 is same as yours. I will look into this.

Thank you so much!
