Mine was the tank and occurred at 89K miles.

Got the new tank and replaced it; took out ~ 3 litres of coolant before but still a bit of spill from the hose that connects to the bottom.

I could not find a leak or crack on the old tank but it could be just when is hot.

I installed the new tank (it comes with a new sensor) and connected the hose; I noticed it has a bit of play and it can be rotated +/- 30 degrees with no effort. I did not check if the hose itself is supposed to have an inside o-ring (that could have been the culprit...) but I'm a bit worried about the movement; all other coolant hoses fit quite nicely and without any play.

Did a couple of runs of the bleeding procedure before turning on the car; I couldn't see any leak and even when I rotate the hose nothing leaks but I guess will need to wait until it gets really hot and under pressure....have the feeling I may be back with a new hose....they are still out-of-stock on my parts supplier so will see....

After further testing, the connection leaks....so with no available parts, decided to check if there was an O-Ring in the connection; there was one, fairly worn and flat so took it out and managed to find a close one (OD:7/8" ID:5/8" and 1/8") it seems to be an exact match; there was one in MM (208 Buna-N O-Ring) but will take days to be shipped.

Installed the new O-ring, it fit 'fine' and the connection was much stronger and firm, still rotated a bit though but when I did the same test there was no leak from the connection

I cleaned up and dried a bit of the spill and when I was about to close the hood, I saw a couple of drops coming from the Coolant Level Sensor? (It is brand new; it does not have any ring/washer only gets twisted in.....)

is now too dark to keep checking so will need to wait til Saturday......

Same problem with mine. Looks to be leaking from the sensor as it seems kinda loose. Gonna remove my expansion tank and see if I could fit in a new O-ring like cls70 and keep the original part. Otherwise, I'm going aftermarket cause factory one doesn't last anyway.

@e70Jane:

At the end I think my leak was in the Hose connection; I replaced the Tank and replaced the O-ring inside the connection (inside the plastic end of the hose), will post pictures of the new vs old O-ring.

So far (knock on wood) I have no leaks from it.

The sensor does not have any gasket/o-ring but it could be that the leak is coming from somewhere else and drips through the sensor, it was hard to pinpoint the source due the location.

Thanks, I'll post my findings once I get it out this evening.

I had the same leak. I only changed the tank and no problem solved. I also didn't find any cracks or anything on the tank... weird...but it WAS leaking at the bottom where the hose connects...

The sensor doesn’t dip into the coolant so it should not require an o-ring, and there shouldn’t be a leak from that area unless it was cracked. My expansion tank is not cracked but I suspect it’s the hose connection point. With a small pick I was able to dig out the o-ring from the hose. Mine is definitely not flat but it’s super soft, and probably due to heat during operation. It should be a simple fix though. Can you tell me if the new o-ring needs to be fitted back into the hose, where i originally picked it out from, or should it go over the connection on the expansion tank?

11537545278 This should be the part number for the o-ring and I found out it does need to be inserted back into the hose prior to connecting.

Yes, I picked the old O-ring out and put the new one back into the inside of the hose end / plastic connector.
