NBT Retrofit Journey

Hey guys, I decided to upgrade my CCC to NBT.. I have acquired the NBT HU, 8.8 CID screen and idrive touch controller. As far as I have read I still need the emulator, CID cable, GPS antenna, idrive touch ecu, center console trim (which I just ordered online), and need to code my HU? I plan on using this thread to post about my progress with complete pics (might help someone else doing this upgrade).

My main questions at this point is which emulator should I go with? I have HUD. I am pretty good at DIY projects and have some javascript experience so I plan on doing the most that I can on my own.

HUD makes it a little weird. This is what I got from bimmerretrofit last fall

Since your vehicle is equipped with HUD, you may want to get MOST eNBT Retrofit Adapter since it offers HUD support (although limited): MOST eNBT Retrofit Adapter for E6x, E7x, E8x and E9x BMWs with HUD and Climate Control Support
You will be able to adjust HUD settings (brightness, height, displayed information), but navigation directions will not be visible in HUD.

Your other option is to get this adapter: eNBT Retrofit Adapter for all E series BMWs with Dynamic lines and Color Climate Controls menu
You will be able to add rear-view camera with dynamic guide lines and a front camera.
You will not be able to adjust HUD settings via OEM menu, but you will be able to do this using an aftermarket menu, similar to the climate controls menu.

Thanks for the reply, I was actually trying to narrow down my emulator choices since I plan purchasing on Friday. I only really use ths HUD just to check my speed, however I do have an OEM rear-view camera. I don't really care about the dynamic guide lines, but I do plan on upgrading the camera since the one I have now has HORRIBLE resolution. Can I add dynamic guidelines by coding the actual HU or is this only done through the emulator?

Someone knows if F-series HUD can be added with the NBT retrofit?

Emulator. I got mine from Adrian for my e60.
My e70 is coming up right behind it because of idrive controller and CCC issues.
I've looked at just CIC but there is so much stuff to buy just for that I figured I might as well go NBT.

You may need a Fx antenna amp for 2nd antenna lead for better traffic info.
An extended fakra cable for sdars.
And maybe a few more cables.
I haven't started tearing apart yet. So you're ahead of me.

In EU they've already been here and done that. We are late to the party

Well I only have the 3 main components and the trim pieces, I plan on buying the emulator and cables this weekend. As far as the cables goes, do you know which ones I'll need? I was going to buy them as I was going along. Who is Adrian? I find it a bit hard to shed out $550 for an emulator when I purchased the 3 main components for under $450.

Emulator is the key! otherwise nothing will work. You have to trick the NBT to think its in a Fseries and then it will work. Nothing will turn on without the emulator.

Adrian is with customretrofit.ro

You got the NBT head, NBT screen, and NBT touchcontroller for $450? That's an awesome deal!!!

I just came back from Hasbrook NJ after picking up the X yesterday. It had a messed up CCC or soda stuck controller......
All the more reason to NBT retrofit.

The cost was what made me decide to go with the NBT route... I'll try to keep the cost to a minimum. I will contact Adrian later on today and see what my options are, I'll keep everyone updated.
