Blowers not working front and rear

Hello! First post here but an ex regular on an E46 forum up to a few years ago.

I've had my e70 (2008 4.8i RHD UK spec) less than 2 weeks and the blowers have completely stopped working. No air front or rear, including the windscreen clear function.

I've done the required googling and forum searches but my problem doesn't seem to come under the regular FSR/blower regulator issue as I have no air front, rear or windscreen. From what I can gather the rears have their own FSR so even if the front FSR goes down the rears should still work.

Can anybody shed any light before I start replacing bits? Anything anyone can think of that might help me narrow things down?

Just in case anyone stumbles across this thread in the future...

The blower motor had seized. Removed, cleaned and lubricated it, everything is now working well again.

It would seem that, at least here in wet and windy Britain, that moisture makes its way into the blower motor as it looked a little rusty in there!

I have this sound coming out of the blower like some parts are coming into contact intermittently. How difficult will it be to replace the bearings.

I pulled out the motor last Saturday, the bearing on the fan side was dry, used a few drops of the trusty old 3 in 1 oil I have been using ever since I remember around the house including on the sewing machine did the trick. Motor runs smooth now and and is whisper quiet, change the filters too while I was at it.

Nice job. How long did it take to remove the blower motor?

When I bought my 2010 X5, I had a bunch of fan related issues. It would make this godawful noise when it was cold and at low speeds. I had to replace the fire wall seperator because it was toast. Water was getting everywhere it shouldnt have and looked like it had been doing so for a while.

When I pulled the cabin filters and the air recirculation filter they were black and soaking wet. I left the system on and running for an hour or so with the fan on high and heat on full. It seemed to have dried everything out and replaced the fire wall seperator and all the filters.

Here we are, a year later and it has been functioning 100%. I will say this. I noticed that the rear system in the middle and far back seem to draw off the front fan. When someone is in the back of the car and they turn the rear fan up I can hear the front fan kick up a notch. I'd take a look at your firewall seperator as well. It seems to be a pretty crucial part of these things to keep them dry. They fail constantly.

bmrboi2 - when you say "firewall separator" are you talking about the infamous bulkhead engine partitions that crack/fail and commonly leak water onto injector #5? If so, this is obviously another reason to keep an eye on those items.

Years ago I read on one of the forums about the bulkhead partitions, and I fixed that problem before any damage to the injectors. However, I've had occasional blower motor squealing (particularly in cold weather when braking, of all things), and I've been able to reach in with a long oil hose and successfully treat the squeaky wheel. Now it makes sense that the initial injury may be related to the cracked engine partitions.

Interesting - one problem with multiple consequences.

Yes that is correct. I suspect the failure of my Ebox fan has something to do with that plastic guard failing.
