Be careful following OPs advice about AD shocks.

He didnt actually do this work and it appears he didnt work with an AD car.

You CANNOT replace the AD parts with non-AD parts and have a functioning suspension (without also replacing sway bars and recoding quite a bit).

And finally since AD is far superior to ALL aftermarket kits marketed, why would you replace it?

(note: replacing the air bags- fine. knock yourself out. But dont remove the AD units... It is hard, but resist that bias that anything aftermarket is always better than stock!)

It is personal opinion, however AD unit, as you are referring to it, is just a regular b4 shock (33526781923) and it's being replaced by a performance Koni shock. BMW makes it sound unique, so people go trough dealerships and pay 400 for a "BMW" shock and 200 for the same Bilstein shock. Isn't it how outsourcing production works in this company?

There was no coding required, for now, and even if the code comes up, it is not too difficult to remove.

Sway bars are identical:

3.0:
RealOEM.com - Online BMW Parts Catalog

4.8:
RealOEM.com - Online BMW Parts Catalog

Bars are only different on vehicles with Dynamic Drive.

OP

You seem to be confusing AD with air ride

Ard is right people! AD has electric controlled dampening for both front and rear shocks. Looking at OPs rear shock that was removed, he does not have AD so of course no error codes. If you have AD and remove the shocks for non-AD, you’ll get a dynamic suspension error guaranteed.
