Squidly,
Not all of us are qualified for those extra explosive cars like you!

Seriously, I've not considered what to do with the extra block.

Update:
Put a few new plugs in after eliminating the old old ones. Misfire #8 gone.
Misfire #2 remains.
Changed out the unknown vanos cam sensors from my known good running engine.
It's running smooth but slightly off.

I hate to say it but bank 1 cover will have come off. I'm hoping for the famous eccentric lever spring coming off

Thanks everyone for helping me get this far.
Down to just one code

Squidly?

Hey!! I was Army and I didn't even call you a name like "sir"

I hope your cylinder issue is just some little bit of a temporary grimlin kinda thing.

Best of luck and thanks for the great pictures, even though I now have an irrational fear of digging deeper into my exhaust rattle!!

EODguy,

Sorry I asumed you were navy.

I had an exhaust rattle that was just the cat clamp to rear exhaust. They rust out and get loose. I think it's $50 for a new clamp. There are 2 (one for R and L). They are just around the tranny engine junction.

LoL

No worries.

I hope that's all it is, but I bought 4.8iS as a third owner for almost $4,000 USD and after repairs and I'm hitting close to $10,000 USD car/parts/labor, so for some reason I just can't help being a little negative. On the bright side I have an 05 in Alpine White w/creme beige full option and I have been told it's fairly rare.
I think that's code for more parts...

Have a great day and good luck!!

Opened bank1 and found 3 springs off.

I've got one thing to say to new attempts at the valve seal job.

Check your springs!!!

My timing was perfect bank1. I was probably so engrossed with timing I failed to pay special attention to the springs.
I triple checked the springs this time. 1 time by feeling for the spring. 1 time with mirror. 1 time with feel. And 1 more time with mirror.
Sorry thats 4.

I better close bank 1 before I check the spring a couple more times.

Tomorrow bank 2 check for springs and timing.

Really glad you found the issue and fast! Hopefully you find Bank 2 in good condition since the code for #8 was resolved already.

Thank you, Sir!

I attempted putting valve cover back on bank2 which had no springs off, timing perfect, and slightly broken eccentric shaft. I replaced eccentric shaft with my old one.

The engine was out of the car when I put covers back on.

HOW THE HECK DO YOU KEEP THE VALVE GASKETS IN PLACE WHILE WIGGLING THE COVER BACK INTO PLACE WITH THE ENGINE IN THE CAR???

Sorry. I'm pissed because the cover was back on but the back rear gasket came out and I couldn't get it to stay.

Ughhh

I've seen all kinds of methods, but I used a little dabs of RTV sealant to keep the gasket in the channel of the valve cover so that when flipped over, it stays put.

Thank you toothbrush.

I used Indian gasket shellac from advance. It's kind of like contact cement and sealer at the same time.

How did you guys get the driver valve cover to seat over the tubes properly.

The passenger went into pretty straight forward. The driver is giving me all sorts of problems. I can get the end ones to start screwing down. But the middle ones are not going down.
I greased both sides. Used a rubber mallet.
Working on the engine in the car Sucks!!

Thanks

Finally figured it out.

There are some redish orangish guides at the bottom lower side of the valve cover that has to go in first. Then you close the valve cover like a book from the outside lower part to the topside inner part.

Engine is super smooth now. It's got lots of torque and power.

I'm back on the road for wife to drop of the college kid.
The electric i3 doesn't have the range required.
Wish this had the 8 speed ZF tranny.

Thanks everyone.

Hope my mishaps help someone else.
