A few weeks of cold weather here in the UK and my windscreen / windshield water bottle started to loose fluid at an alarming rate (litres in 24hrs). My first thoughts were that it was leaking straight on the road during travel. I found out yesterday that all the water has been leaking in to the footwells inside the cabin. I managed to decant approx 10l yesterday, so just need to get the excess out of the under carpet foam padding and I’ll be ready to sort.

I need help on how this may have happened and if the rear wash wipe pipe/hose may be to blame? I presume this runs through the cabin but I don’t know it’s route.

Pumps seems to opperate okay, however it’s worth noting that someone took a liking to my headlightveasher covers and ripped them out with the nozzle still attached so to still have the piston unit installed but there is an open gap in the front bumper/fender.

Thanks for taking the time to read this.
Hi Bruce, can you smell the washer solvent to make sure that the fluid is washer fluid? If so, you can study realoem.com to possibly see the routing and connections of the washer fluid hoses. I am suspect of that as the fluid is only present when the washer is activated as gravity should have the rest of the fluid return to the reservoir when not operating? To prove your theory you may try operating the washers to see if you can create the leak. The front windshield washer hoses are over the fresh air intake vents so that may also be an entry for fluid. Check the connections if the front washers under the hood. Good luck.

Hmmm, windshield wiper fluid? By no means am I an expert. But the reservoir tank is in front of the front wheel. Fill from top, tank down low. Even with a busted pipe at the base of your windshield, it would not drain?

Are your drains clogged under your windshield? Pumping fluid onto your windshield, its going to get wiped into that reservoir, and leak through the firewall through your wiring harness.

The the front cover in front of windshield. It is two peices. Clip out the cabin filter assembly. Carefully clean the buried drain.

After a big rain or running the 5 through a car wash it would continue to drip huge puddles in my garage for an hour later. Once I cleaned the drain openings in your photo it ended the problem. Great advice.

I would not use glue alone.

Id want a much more 'mechanical' patch- like a layer or two of self sealing silicone tape, with double tie wraps up- and down- stream to 'seal' each end of the patch. maybe silicone caulk first to 'fill in' those corrugations?

Great pics, great thread.

Do these gaps in the line piss pressurized fluid when you hit the rear window washer button? I would be careful with tape or glue. This is not water in the hose? It's Anti-freeze, methylated spirits/methanol/ethanol/isopropanol/ethylene glycol.
Any old glue? May not do?
I would lean, as above, to a mechanical repair. I would go to the hardware store, look in the plumbing section, or the outdoor sprinkler section. Those little sprinkler joiner pipes maybe the ticket.
