E-box fan from 07 x5 4.8l

Need some info on how this little fan works. Mine was not working when I started the car. However, once removed and put to the battery, it spins but makes an intermittent chirping sound. Regardless, I’m getting a replacement fan but i also need to find out why it doesn’t spin when plugged on and with the car started. Is there a fuse that could be blown? Does this fan turn on immediately following startup?

Taking a quick look at the pin out for the DME...my quick browse sees at least two signals (Pins #4 & #19) in connector X60004 that send a signal to the E-box fan. So perhaps the fan comes on when some specific condition occurs and is turned on by the DME:

{see connector X60004}

So it only turns on when the ecu says so? I’m gonna make sure there’s
power to the wires. What I’m gonna do is run the 2 wires all the way to the passenger seat and have the little fan sitting there next to me. Then I’ll do some driving to see if it turns on. Thanks for the info.

Thought about that but if there's 2 signals and that it flips on when the ecu tells it to, I don't believe I will get any readings if it's not on at the time, no?

Correct.

But I meant set the voltmeter on the seat next to you. run the wires to the fan.

I assume youve looked at the schematic? Looks like the fan gets 12V all the time, and the DME just grounds it to make it run. My read.
