Have you replaced both belts?
I just replaced the tensioner due to a rattle around 2-3k rpms. If you are lucky enough to find the exact replacement tensioner then replace that and see. I found mine, Genuine BMW on eBay for 111 bucks. Beware, they sell lots of tensioners out there but they are not the correct part. Also, BMW does not use the spring loaded tensioner anymore. They make you switch over to the hydraulic tensioner to the tune of 4-500 bucks.
