2010 X5 xdrive 35d motor shutting down

Hi, my 35d just stopped on highway without warning. No warning lights illuminated. Try to restart and no go. Switch key off and back on and it starts first go and sounds perfect. Quietly move off and motor is fine. However, if you accelerate hard the motor will cut out. Interestingly, when the motor is cold it Purrs under any type of acceleration. Simply, when cold no problems.
I have read re broken partition and the flooding of injector 5. Yes my plastic partition is broken.
Also on a scan it said DDE activation cylinder 5 injector.
I plan to access injector asap however was wondering why there is no problem when cold. If anyone has any thoughts your help would be appreciated.

Kind Regards

When cold the dde is using different parameters for injection, which could be less critical of injection and not care as much for variation as it does when warm/hot.

Get an ohm meter and read each of the 2 pins to ground of 5 injector and 6 too. My 6 didn't throw codes but it was reading borderline, so I replaced both to be safe. 456 share a common wire, so sometimes the code shows up as bank 2 injector issues.

Robnitro, thank you very much for your response, it was appreciated.
Did you purchase new injectors off someone local or is there a good site such as eBay from where I can purchase.
Also I see injector codes will have to be updated. Was thinking about purchasing a Foxwell Pro 520 to carry out this task.
I am x motor mechanic from many years ago ( many many years) hopefully I still have the skills to complete the Job.
Again thanks and Kind Regards.

Ebay the Bosch injector number, you can find the part number by looking at sites that sell the injectors for 335d.

I used ista-d/ rheingold to code the injectors, not sure about foxwell

Sounds like it might be the fuel filter.

Fuel filter wouldn't give you a code for a specific injector plus when cold he doesn't have the issue, and when cold the fuel isn't warned up so it's actually thicker a bit.

X5 Engine shutting down

Hi Robnitro, today I removed manifold and checked injectors..
Across the 2 injector pins I am getting 180 ohms on all injectors except for the one in question (number 5)
Number 5 produces really strange readings. I have seen a 150 ohm but it won’t hold it. Sometimes you are lucky to see 1ohm. Others times it may read 40ohms. All readings are carried out with good contact on the pins.
I did as you suggested and also checked each pin to earth however no reading on meter.
Hopefully this is the reason for the motor stoping whilst under acceleration.
Any comments you have will again be greatly appreciated.
Kind Regards from New Zealand.

Looks like that's the bad injector. Did it look corroded?

X5 35d engine shuting down

Hi Robnitro, thanks for response. No, there was no sign of rust. However I have not had the vehicle long and the previous owner always housed the vehicle in a garage. After purchasing the vehicle we went to Australia for 50 days and vehicle sat outside with the plastic upper engine compartment completely broken. Now hoping on our arrival home the injector was wet or damp and consequently failed when power was supplied. Today will remove injectors and order a new one and a seal kit for manifold. Also have ordered a Foxwell 520 pro scanner to recode new injector. Will update you when further down the track. In the meantime again thanks, your comments are appreciated.
Kind Regards

After seeing how much water the foam cover holds, I stopped using the engine cover because it traps water in and speeds corrosion. Or you can remove the foam from it and put the plastic back.

Be sure to write down the codes twice. I messed up and wrote down the wrong code which was on the side but the coding needed the top one. With a small camera I got the right code.

And of course fix those plastic partitions to prevent future issues.
