Comfort Access & High Battery Drain
So I've intermittently seen the high battery drain warning come up on the MFD. I figured it was phone chargers and what not, but recently I've started having issues with comfort access. I first noticed it when the door closed one day and the doors immediately locked and the alarm activated without pressing the FOB. It seems that the door handles are a common culprit, so I've checked all the handles with a FLIR camera, and none of them are generating heat, so I'm fairly confident that it's not an issue with a short in the handle circuitry. While checking all the handles to make sure the touch lock feature works, I noticed that when I come around the drivers side rear corner of the vehicle, it seems to be a hot spot for activating the alarm and locks. Also, when standing next to the car it seems like it's trying to lock the doors repeatedly after I press the lock button on the FOB. Same thing happens once I unlock. It's like the module is receiving repeated commands that aren't real somehow. I feel like it's a faulty module or proximity sensor. |

Do you have a laptop, cable and software to interrogate modules, look for errors, etc?
The comfort access is notoriously hard to diagnose based on logic and symptoms,you have done quite well so far... |

Good afternoon.
I am dealing with the exact same issue as you. Here's what I know... The vehicle turns off certain peripheral modules if they are consuming more power than usual. What you have probably noticed is your comfort access won't work alright before you get in the car and notice the high battery discharge message. My issue was with the passenger side front door handle. It did not work at all for the longest while but then all of a sudden started doing some weird things. It would work kinda, then keep locking it when I was near it and sometimes lock and unlock. It typically will act like this when the fob is nearest the antenna for the faulty handle. I disconnected the faulty handle, since I don't use it anyway, and everything was back to normal. No battery drain or weird locking/unlocking issues. Will this fix your problem? Who knows. Only one way to find out. I will eventually replace the handle all together but for now I really don't care. I get in the driver's side like any normal driver would. |

It didn't at first but it certainly does now. The comfort access module is definitely turning off due to battery voltage. I'm also not seeing the glow plug emblem in the MFD in this bitterly cold Michigan weather we've been having, so several systems are being thrifted.
For the time being I pulled fuse 132 in the rear box to disable comfort access, but it's impacting several other systems; rear power hatch and radio aren't working correctly. That said I'm more worried about getting the thing started at -15F LOL I've ordered a cable with the FTDI chip and I'll see about getting INPA installed on something so I can see what codes are coming up. I'm dealing with both passive and active DEF tank faults as well right now, so it has more than one use. Once it warms up a bit I'll do further troubleshooting on the handles. |

How old is your battery? Older/weak batteries can cause lots of electrical issues. I used to get that high battery drain warning and it never told me WHAT was causing it. I changed the 6yr old battery and the warning never came back on.

I had this same issue and fixed it by replacing the battery (it was ~5 yrs old). BMWs are hard on batteries because of how the alternators are tuned for fuel economy. They really need to be trickle-charged frequently to get the full life out of them.

I chased this issue as well. Dealer replaced door handles. I believe a total of five of them over three trips.
It was found as battery drain, and codded to Comfort access. The car was not going to sleep? they suggested. On a personnel note - with the car in the cool garage, the rear door handle was warm to the touch in the morning. I found that odd. To me, obviously electrical. |

Had a warm spell this weekend and I got out and put fuse 132 back in. Troubles with auto door locking/unlocking came back so I removed the handle for the rear passenger door, nearest where the system would actuate itself. The odd behaviors went away. Plugged it in again and it was back to it's glitchy self. I snipped the three wires in the handle and called it a day. I haven't seen a battery drain warning since. I'll have to decide what to do about the handle, probably just keep an eye on eBay for a replacement, they look around $250 from a dealership.

I feared if I left the pigtail unplugged and put the handle back on I'd lose the pigtail in the door when I replace the handle. I really despise taking off door cards.
