BTW, this isn't the only video out there where I have seen aluminum in the front end of the E70.

Steel control arms? Steel ball joints, steering rods and tie rods, yeah, never control arms, though. Mine are aluminum anyway. Maybe the upper wishbone sort of shaped piece on top might be steel.

Nope, just replaced the wife's entire front suspension. Upper wishbone was aluminum and aluminum went back in. Original lower control arms and tension/thrust arms were steel. Replacements are steel as well. At least that was the case on her 2010 X35d.

Yeah, I just meant I'd never really looked at that piece and I was supposing. I'll have to look at everything a little bit closer now. I have a 8/2011 X5.

I though the topic was 'the same part is available in steel and aluminum versions... Same part, as in same car, same year, same everything. Have not seen any evidence of this
Huh. Love to see pictures.... |

Here you go. Not many pics, but should do. I double checked the original parts as I still have them on the garage floor for some reason. The only part that was not magnetic was the upper wishbone.

Well wow. Looking at the arms, I would have bet money they were aluminum. I just put magnets on the lower control and tension strut, both are magnetic. Again, they sure dont look like steel! |

I never would have considered checking. I just assumed - and they look like - they're aluminum. I've seen older BMWs with steel parts and they're painted black. Who knows. Learned something new today.

Is there anything functional in difference between the 2? Weight ? Load bearing? Performance?
