Loud Squeal with Engin Running

Just paid $1500 to the Stealer to replace the crankcase vent hose which had collapsed and was screaming when the engine was warm and running. 2010 X5 3.0 E70. Just thought this might help the next guy. You have to take off the valve cover to access this vent hose (~$50; 11157559528) but for $1500 it would be worth it to me.

Ouch on your wallet. I just replaced mine last month while I replaced the valve cover and other maintenance parts. I got it on eBay for $30 genuine part. It is definitely a part that should be replaced when servicing the valve cover.

The screaming is something of many BMW's, I had it on my 3.0 M54 and on the 4.8. Different, but still typical.

On the M54B30 The crank case ventilation 'pot' with tubes can be replaced without removing the intake. It's not very easy but 'doable'.

however, I usually replace more than just that what failed. As it tells something about other parts. So the second time I had to replace that 'pot' I did take off the cover and replaced the coolant/interior heating tubes too (these crack at the connection to the block) and cleaned the throttle valve/ idle valve as well. Check the dipstick tube and so on.

So when the 4.8 started to scream rythmically I braced for the work to be done.

Turns out to be two diaphragm's, 20$ and 10 minutes work.
