Credit actually goes to USPS. It arrived on Saturday. Turns out the old hose was fine. All I had to do was replace the junk plastic fitting with the new aluminum retrofit. No leaks, yay! I did have to remove the long, tubular aluminum crossbar to gain good access. That required also removing the two plastic rivets holding the air intake duct to it, and unsnapping a plastic tube from the back side of the bar. All in all, a fairly straightforward DIY job.

As far as the hoses go, sure, they are all 10 years and 122K miles old so, sure I would like to replace them all. That will have to wait for another day, though.

Thanks, smassey321 and Zulu95! The aluminum replacement was a great tip.

One of my favorite lines!

It's great being able to discuss these things here on Xoutpost before doing the repair. I wouldn't have known about the aluminum retrofit piece otherwise, and would have just ordered another piece of not-so-great plastic. Power to the X!

There is no doubt that the board is a valuable resource and makes ownership less painful. I have been assisted numerous times over the 15 years I have been on it and am happy to pass on anything I can to assist others.
I cannot imagine how much money it has saved me over those years.

No doubt! Been on a few years and it's been invaluable. Cut my teeth on a '98 E39 M62 non vanos and guys like QSilver7, bmwdirtracer, JimLev, Geargrinder, ed jack [just to name a few!] on a few different BMW forums have saved me a lot of time and money to say the least! Especially coming from an old school background experience wise [holley carbs, edelbrock high rise intake manifolds, moog suspension components and hooker headers, and subscribed to Car Craft magazine... Yeah, these cars are from a completely different paradigm! There's a great group of guys out there and they're all of the understanding that knowledge is power and information is the most expensive thing in the world. I'm super excited to learn more about my E70 and am already enjoying the hell out of it this summer!
Thanks again! I look forward to more insightful conversations!

I have owned BMW's since the 70's. That was long before boards and I found a lot out by skinning my knuckles and getting my hands dirty including a complete engine rebuild on an early Kugelfischer FI model.
The past 15 odd years have been a lot easier with all the info available.
