Backup Camera, Issues or poor quality can

Ok, so I have to ask this question. Is there quality issues with the backup camera? Daytime is great, but at night I get nothing. I purchased my E70 used and it’s been this way ever since I owned it.

Daytime:

At Night:

Agreed, the back up camera is useless at night, but that's just what you get. Camera is not good in low-level light. Some have installed brighter back-up bulbs with some improvement. I am looking at adding a hitch step with LED lights. Anything would be better than the factory configuration.

I have an '07; original camera quit working at about 115-120K miles. Bought a used replacement off FleaBay; crappy picture, and its now failing. BMW also seems to have issues with their tailgate/trunk wiring harnesses; especially license plate bulb wiring... It could be a harness issue; or just junk parts. Not paying $800+ for an OEM replacement camera, tho...

Well, knowing that it would not fix the issue I upgraded my reverse bulbs to a brighter LED version. Big difference in brightness, but still a crappy picture on the backup camera at night. Would be nice if the was an aftermarket plug and play camera.

Those pictures look just like mine! I also put in very bright LED back up lights that do great, but don't help the camera much at all... been searching for a fix but have not found one yet.

Uh, Quality in low light is not like daytime, but it doesn't look anything like that in our 2013, I actually think it looks pretty good given the amount of light to work with, and you can adjust the brightness and contract, but that image makes it look like the camera is toast..

The 2013 has the CIC system while the pre-LCI (like OP) is the CCC system and does not have the adjustment you mention. Plus the camera with the CCC system is of a far less quality of CCC or newer.

My '08 looked the same, while my '13 is nearly perfect at night.
