08 3.0 stuck in neutral
Everything went well too it out and put everything back in. The only real issue I had was getting the sleeve in because of space and getting my hands in there. eventually got it in and hooked up the connector. Filled it with fluid. I get into the vehicle and the transmission is stuck in neutral. It says on the dash it is shifting through the gears but it is not engaging. Once the car is shut off it gives transmission error on dash because it wont go into park. I saw a post on here where the pins got bent on the mechatronic unit, maybe the issue. Anything else I should try. I am going to take the inspection cam and check out the pins to see if theyre bent. |

Make sure that arm on the side of the trans that has the cable to put it in N isn't stuck or being pulled, which will also keep it in N.
It's hard to get the sleeve connector back in, when you pushed it in was it easy to twist it 90degrees to lock? |

The arm on the side was clear. It was undisturbed from taking everything apart. I did an check of everything externally and after the issue and it seemed good. It appears to be the same as when i pulled it apart. Ill go through and check this again just to be sure.
When i sled the connector back in the collar turned the 90 degrees very easily. I even unscrewed it making sure the connector went in all the way and it tightened easily again. Thanks for the reply I appreciate the help. |

Do you have a BMW specific code reader? The TCU (trans computer) may be throwing codes...
Your trans was actually leaking ATF out onto the ground?!? Just out of the blue? Do you know the history, or was someone into it previously? |

I took it apart the other day and it ended up being the lever that hooks I got the Mechatronic unit. Hooked it in where it goes. Had to refill and go through that again and it’s working better. No leaks and shifts better but still has a slip between 3/4.
I have inpa for reading. The transmission has always leaked since I got it and I was hoping to find a decent used trans to put in by now but nothing within reasonable distance for a reasonable price. It was leaking out of the sleeve for sure and in the pan. History is the car was neglected by po. Have been slowly getting it back to tip top shape. This and the taillights are the last issues. |
