2008 X5 E70 front blower heat/AC
I pulled the blower. Tested blower motor with Out of vehicle 12v, blower runs fine. Originally found slightly melted plug at power terminal. Checked all fuses related, on the fuse diagram. All checked good. Replaced the common go to choice FSU( final stage unit) Bought and spliced in, power cable to blower. Still blower not working. Head unit checked fine wire continuity from head unit plus thru cable, to the blower plug. Checked good for continuity. Need more ideas what else to check. Head unit display SEEMS GOOD. Blower level changes on display. Any ideas most appreciated. Last edited by Mech1; 10-28-2019 at 08:36 PM. Reason: Review spelling |

Try defrost mode, if it works there, then it's your ibs complaining that the battery is too low and will run the fan at the lowest setting even if it shows higher.

I have tried all settings and so far none of them brings power to the fan motor.
Yet I know the fan works. I have tested it with 12 volts out of the vehicle. I’m now interested in the circuit the brings the power to the front blower. Fuses all check good. Is there possibly a relay involved. Or other means of testing the head unit. Thank you |

I have also charged the battery. And tried still no fan.

Have you checked freon levels by chance?

you say "spliced in"...
why would this be necessary? |

I had to splice in a new cable to the blower resistor unit. The original one was melted on the first terminal. the insulation on the 2 heavier cables were melted. And the wires appear to be touching.
but I could not find a blown fuse. so I’m still in question what else is involved in the circuitry for the blower to get power to it. The display panel appears to be wiring. I ordered online wiring diagrams but when I receive them they were too blurry to read even if I printed them out. I traced the two heavy cables I splice the new connector to all the way back as far as I could,to the fuse panel On the passenger side. but they lead into a black housing and I can’t determine if it’s a circuit board with a possible relay, that may have been damaged somehow. There is a lot of talk online regarding a recall on the blower for this vehicle. But when I call the dealership. They tell me I don’t have any recalls for blower issue for my 2008 X5 and I would have to pay to have it diagnosed. This is as far as I have been able to go. Still looking for a possible solution or hint on what else to test. |

You checked the tis diagrams yet? Possible relay failure for sure if there is one in the circuit.

I had to take mine (2007 e70 3.0d) to my local stealership in August 2019..... mine is actually a late 2007 model (UK 57 plate), and that was definitely because of a recall.
https://www.gov.uk/check-vehicle-recall This is a UK government web page where you can check for recalls on all vehicles, if you read through it, there is a way of checking a vehicle type and age without needing to input the registration number, so you can check yours, even if you are from USA.
