Dpf removal noise
If it is to be expected, is there something I can put in the exhaust to help quieter it? Like a resonator maybe? I really want to remove the dpf and egr, but love the way car currently sounds.

Does the NZ 40d have SCR or DOC?

As soon as you remove the DPF and Catalytic converter you will hear the turbo whistle without a doubt. If you leave the Cat in it will remove it slightly or you can get an aftermarket Cat that cuts down on the smell as well as the whistle.
That being said, having your X5 sound like a jet fighter during take off is one of the cool things about doing a delete. Haha! |

Hi- I have a fully deleted diesel. It sounds great, and I still have the factory muffler. It sounds more throaty from outside, and you definitely will hear the turbo whistle with the windows open. With the windows closed, you'll barely hear any difference. I kept the factory muffler beacuse I wanted it to be about the same sound level, though I'm thinking about putting an electric cutout in to be able to have an open dump to be louder.

I believe it has a DOC as part of the dpf, but it doesn’t have anything seperate. It doesn’t have the SCR thing either.
Thanks for the replies, I think I would probably grow to like the sound, and I guess if not, I can find a high flow cat to put in the system somewhere to help quieten it down. The egr system on this is also a bit of a bear. It appears to have a second cooler/heater right by intake manifold, for transmission fluid.

A DOC provides the same function as the SCR system except the SCR can provide for two reactions that reduce or eliminate NOx while a DOC, avaliable in two different versions, can only provide for one or the other. If I were deleting the SCR and DPF, I would have a DOC installed. I don't think removing the EGR will make a big difference noise-wise and since all you have is the DPF and probably a combination DOC, I don't think you'll hear too much of a difference. I recommend using a DOC anyway.
