Radio readiness issues

Hi guys

I have a 2008 X5 E70 and recently (after some mechanical repair, cough 'turbo' cough) seems to have an issue with the radio.

When the ignition is on or the engine is on, the radio works fine, with the exception that it is 'muted' on entry. However, when I switch the engine off and keep the key in, or just put the key in without starting, the radio does not work !

The blank 'BMW' scree is on and after a couple minutes the battery warning light comes up on the dash.

As you can see on the photo I have an android system installed, that works fine just with the key in.

Today though, after a few days of having the issue, the radio is working fine again, without ignition etc. The problem somehow fixed itself.

Anyone an idea or had a similar issue?

Hmmm. Could be your battery was run down, during the mechanical repairs. and as a result the charge management system wasnt fully powering all required componebts. While they all powered on, they may not have done so properly- (like a module doesnt fully power on and handshake with other modules in the allocated period, a radio starts before all amps are powered, etc etc- and you were seeing issues. Once you got fully charged, and all modules reset and have all the power they needed, proper operation returned.

These cars have a layer of 'smarts' that manage battery power, that can confuse the old concepts around charge, power, start up, etc. Or a layer of stupid....

My guess....
