Well I picked it up this morning. Spent an hour in the car driving home with AC - Air on and didn’t smell anything. When I arrived close to the house I rolled the windows down and I could definitely smell diesel fumes, not to terrible but noticeable for sure. Outside while idling too if you are just standing around.

So far it’s non present within the cabin but windows down at idle to low speeds you are going to smell it.

My wife will mostly drive he car. She never has the windows down or sunroof open. I don’t think it will be a problem for me, for others it could be.

Hope this helps

Car was bought this way, No Modifications on my part, Though i am not complaining. No one wants to buy a used car with the prospect of thousands of dollars of emissions related work potentially just round the corner.

That being said i have a buddy who always messes with his wife's rig (Wheels, Exhaust, Chip, Tune, Front spoiler etc) His car is a completely bone stock econobox for commuting. Maybe he just see value in modifying the truck vs the commuter?

Hey, My X5 is deleted. Honestly, other than stopped with the windows down, or sitting in traffic with wind blowing just right, I rarely ever smell it.

I smell it some mornings reversing down my driveway, even with the windows up. If I'm moving more than 3mph, I've never really smelled it. Unless you plan on idling with the windows down a lot, I would say don't worry about it! Other than first starting it, or loading the trunk/ hitching a trailer with it idling, I barely notice it.

Do you use the air re-circulation function with the windows up?
I wonder if a DOC like the Rawtek down pipes offer would make a substantial difference in Smell?

Traffic where i live is terrible, Idling at light or i traffic seems to be the norm unfortunately.

Congrats! I just started my search here in Bellevue Puget sound. I saw this post for weeks. I had no idea it was already deleted/tuned...I saw that listed down to $9.5k! Score! I just don't want white. I am afraid of soot on the back. I kinda want to do the delete work though. I am going to keep looking. There are quite a few private sales, but the prices are well beyond NADA,Kelly,Edmunds private prices. I am trying to figure out how to approach the plethora of X5 35d's where owners are ditching them out-of-warranty, and needing their 100k services ($2.3k just for parts).

Thanks, I saw several at dealers, Most where more used than i was expecting especially sub 100k miles which i was surprised with. Honestly i viewed this with no idea of the delete work, It was disclosed when i arrived so it was a bonus. I was mainly looking for a well kept and very good condition car. I came close to buying a 3.0I gasser with 90k miles but that wouldn't have cut it for towing long term.

White i can handle. I detail my cars pretty regularly. Cream interior will be a more challenging task

Yeah...the cream is not my ideal either...but it has grown on me. I wouldn't pass on that. But dang...showing up and being told $2k work is done...bonus! I would still go for the 100k mile service (trans, glow, module, belt, pully, etc.) Looks like you got a great car. I am a bit jealous. It pays to go look at the car. I am wondering if listings are hesitant to post anything about delete because of retribution. I see it as a plus.

I would think so. Not something that's socially accepted either
Good luck with the search!

It's not Federally accepted either

Hypothetically what happens if a buyer buys one of these deleted cars and has no idea that it has been done. Then later finds out from a state inspection or some such that it has been done. What legal trouble could the original seller then find themselves landing in.

I have no plans to delete but if I did I do with with the idea of never selling the car unless I put everything back on.
