Exterior Door Handle Melted?
Today I noticed this on the drivers door handle of my E70. It smells very much like burnt electronics, and has the consistency of melted rubber. It is coming out from inside the right side of that door handle, when I pull it out, I can see some wires in there. The comfort access on the drivers door has not worked in the 2 years I've had the vehicle. |

Common failure. Need to replace handle.

Those does seems like atypical door handle behavior for most places. Here in Kuwait, I wouldn't be surprised to see it.

Common failure if you have CAS. Happened to my old 35d with CAS. Glad I dont have it now.
It actually threw off all the electronics in the care, the navigation went out, locks were intermittent, etc

I pulled the door handle off, and found that the resin that seals the electronics into the comfort handle is what had melted.
I also found that fuse 132 had blown, which meant I had a warning on screen about the acoustic alert system being disabled, and the stereo system and PDC warnings would not work. I ended up swapping the faulty drivers door handle with the one from the rear door (I don't care about comfort access not working on the rear door) and just leaving the faulty handle disconnected from the wiring harness. I then replaced the fuse and now everything is working fine, including comfort access on the drivers door. The melted resin easily cleaned off with some citrus based degreaser. |
