Remote Start Option for your X5/6

Let's try this again...
---
Installed the iDatalink ADS-BM1 in my '08 X5 4.8 this past weekend.

Very easy to do, just follow the directions and no problems... only about 2 hours total including tying up the cables and cleaning up.

Everything you need (except for a few zip ties and the programming cable) is in the box.
Here are links to the E70 pages on iDatalink:
iDatalink - Search
iDatalink - ADS-BM1
There are also 2 install videos in the support section that show you the simple disassembly and install process.

The complete kit can be found for <$500 on eBay and Amazon, which includes the Remote Start, 2 long distance (2500+ feet) remotes (a 2 way and a 1 way) and it also works with your BMW keyfob (3 presses of the Lock button) as well.
*** You can add Smart Phone Control as well as other 3rd party remotes ***

You will need the ADS-USB programming cable so you can program the system to your vehicle and also capture the BMW keyfob info.
Also, IE for your browser, it will NOT work with Firefox, didn't try any others, but I believe IE is the only browser supported.
Here is the programming cable you will need: iDatalink - ADS-USB
Look on eBay, should be around $25...

Simply disconnect 3 connections (2 on the CAS module, brake switch) under the steering column, insert the 2 wiring harnesses, do the VERY SIMPLE web based config/programming, and you're done.
Don't even disconnect the battery...
No coding, no cut wires, no major disassembling of your X (driver's side kick panel (3 screws) & 1 vent (2 screws)).
You can easily remove the system at any time!

Here is a great DIY for a 1 series, but the process is exactly the same for E70:ADS-BM1 Install DIY

Great product demo video in a 3 series: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fA3lWdvqcqY

I'm not affiliated with any of the companies, just wanted to share an awesome product/upgrade for your X!

VERY Highly recommend this!
John

Great info.

Cold winters here in Ohio can suck... Starting the X up for a few minutes ahead of time is very appealing. This is on my list of mods. right after my torn rear driveshaft and some new tires. I'll be coming back to this in a couple months. Subscribed!

Here is a thread from another forum on the topic with some differing opinions and details just as an FYI:
Update for Remote starts?

I've had mine installed for 2 years and it's still working great!

Thanks,
John

Very cool. I was just thinking about installing my remote start on my DD, and got to thinking about what the easiest route is for the X5D.

Price is a little more than I would care to spend, but for the ease of installation, its probably well spent.

Thanks for the info!!

Looks interesting. Any ability to delay start for glow plug functionality on X5D's?

Since the start seems to be initiated more or less as it is when you press the button, I would think this is handled automatically.

Hi,
They list the X5D on the supported vehicle web page, so you are good to go.
From reading the posts on several other forums, there are many X5D owners using these with no problems and love them in the winter!

Don't know if that helps,
John

I realize this thread is a bit old, but I just installed the OmegaLink branded version of the iDataLink remote start (same exact thing) and it's pretty awesome. The only issue I'm having is that no matter what I do, whenever I open the door the car shuts off. I have a 2010 x5d with comfort access. I've also noticed that the time to unlock is a lot slower when I touch the door handle -- like 2-3 seconds.

Anyone have an ideas?
