P0303-Reading Plugs and odd valve Cover on 2007 N52N?

So getting an intermittent misfire P0303 more when engine is cold.

Vin: 4USFE43517LY78582
Chassis: E70
Model: X5*3.0si
Engine: N52B30O1
Miles: 96k
Prod: 12/06

This is my youngest daily driver and has been fine since bought 1yr ago. So cracked the hood to start looking things over. Do not have much on the history on the car for maintenance so initially changed oil and just changed battery as was getting date reset and battery discharge message

So a scan with PROTOOL posted the following errors
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
DME/DDE [MSV80] | 29CF: Combustion misfires, cylinder 3

VGSG [VGSG70] | 54C6: Oil wear <<<<<<<----- Transfer case flush New Oil

KLIMA [IHKA70] | E723: No message (condensation sensor, 0x2D1), receiver integrated automatic heating / air conditioning system, transmitter roof function centre

FZD [FZD_70] | A670: No description found <<-- Passenger seat restraint

MOSTGW [CCCG60] | E18D: No description found <<<--Audio related? Blue tooth issue maybe? Also coded out the SOS warning

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

So back to the P0303

Opened the hood and after taking off the cover noticed as few things noticed that several of the coil tunnels on the valve cover were cracked and chipped out (I'll post picks) So in line for a new valve cover

2nd that coil #1 had been replace w/DELPHI coil and rest look OEM. Pulled the coils and they looked good no cracks or tears

Pulled plugs and pretty sure they need replacement, gap was 45. I believe that they should be 1.0mm/.40?

Looking at the plugs I see a lean condition but odd that there is carbon also on the base. They all have the standard corona around them.

So moving forward in pursuit of the P0303 Code here is my plan for the next week or so
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
1- New Air Filter - Needs One
2- New Plugs
3- Look for any vacuum leaks
4- Look further into the non CCV on the Valve cover
5- Change Transfer case oil

See if the P0303 still happens after new filter/plugs, if so swap the #3 Coil to #1 and see if the Misfire P0101 follows. If so replace all Coils

So going to replace the Plugs any suggestion on which for the X5? NGA or Bosch? The plugs in the X5 only have Bosch R6 / BMW on them

Was thinking NGK Laser Iridium Spark Plug 1208

You want exact OE or OEM plugs. DO NOT 'upgrade'

NGK is OEM for a few BMWs, but looks like its Bosch for that model (since the part is cobranded....)

Would not be surprised if you have a small air leak that someone was chasing...replaced one coil in the past. OR.... maybe the coils are failing, and #1 was just the first...

Ok some updated Picks

Was able to get #1 to fail and started misfiring, this was where the coil form the original misfire came from #3

Removed the Coil wire while misfiring and no change in engine, removed #3 and started running rougher.

So I think safe to say coils are getting replaced.

Anyone have a link for a good aftermarket OEM supplier?

Going to need a new Valve cover and The coils are Bosch, in the mean time going to get some plugs to swap with a air filter

Say what?!?!

There is no such thing as "aftermarket OEM"

Aftermarket is aftermarket

OEM is OEM and - as you state- Bosch is the OEM for those parts.

Edit: Seems like we have gotten to the point were terms like OE, aftermarket and OEM have virtually no meaning....

Ok now we are splitting hairs...come on

Did not think that would have to be so specific!

OK so let me state the questions differently

Looking for resellers that resell OE ie

Lemforder
Mann
Mahl
Bosch
Delphi

Make more sense?

So anyway an update, replaced the Plugs and running much better but now. The stumble off the bottom is gone, but still have a stumble right at 2000-3000 rpm there is a hesitation then it picks up when accelerating from a dead stop.

I also at the same time am noticing a clicking or like a plastic flapping/ rattling sound.

Do the DISA open only under acceleration or can the noise be heard in Park and revving?

DISA Valve??? DISA failing would be lack of bottom end and a lean condition. Plugs look a little lean?

Now the N52N has 2 DISA Valves is one more prone to go bad ?

A pet peeve I guess, and maybe I am being too pedantic. Sorry

The OE part is sold by BMW, made by Bosch.

There are no 'resellers that resell OE'. (not that are on your list) Basically there are businesses that resell BMW parts- like BMW dealer or FCP or other websites. But nobody like Bosch or delphi or etc takes an OE part and private labels it and then sells it.

Id go with the OEM for this part, which is Bosch.

Im going to pass on the DISA questions. Not enough experience there.
