Foxwell NT510 and registering the battery

Hi everyone, Happy New Year! I am about to purchase a Foxwell NT510 to use on my 2008 X5 3.0si (and also my 2002 330ci). I think this is a great scanner, however, I was researching reviews & feedback on Amazon as well as other sites and it appears many people can’t get the Foxwell to fully register the battery if they change the battery type or capacity. (All they can select is Battery replacement - same as the original).

Can anyone confirm here that the Option 2 menu is displayed and allows you to select these changes (shown in bold)?

Register the new BMW battery with NT510:

3. Select BMW. Scan for VIN. It will automatically look up the VIN number. Once VIN is found press OK.

4. Scroll down to the Body menu 4.

5. Scroll down to Power Supply (Battery) and press Enter.

6. Select option 2 for Battery registration.

In the next screen, you can perform the following.

Register new battery. Battery replacement is the same as the original.
Change battery capacity to higher or lower.
Change battery type between AGM and lead acid battery.

If the Foxwell can’t select/save these changes then please advise what might work. Thanks in advance for your help and advice!

Before I bought the NT530 I checked with FW and was assured it could fully register a change of battery. They even sent me a video link showing it. After I bought the thing I tried out the battery registration feature and found it limited to simply updating the install date for a new identical battery. When I contacted FW they basically said "Opps, we goofed, you do not have that feature. Sorry, would you like our new......" Needless to say I did not buy another.
If I remember correctly Battery Plus can sell you a new battery and install it properly. There may be others as well as the $tealer.

Hi, thanks for the information. I’ll probably buy it anyway but I was really hoping it would allow me to the full battery registration with changes. Apparently the Foxwell scanner will do a lot of other useful stuff also. Regards

Apart from the direct lie about the battery registration I do like the scanner. It saved me the cost when an ABS Sensor went out on our 2001 E53. I only had to drive up our driveway and I knew which wheel had failed.
I have used it in the E70 and the F15. It is always in whichever vehicle I am in.

I did use my 510 to register a replacement battery in a 2008 e92 of a client, I'm surprised they missed something for the same vintage e70, but if you can at least register direct replacement that will be helpful even if slightly wrong amp hours (though I would stick with same makeup (agm or not) if you can't select.

I think I had to round up 5AH when doing the e70.

Anybody else out there try to register e70 battery?

Is it a problem to register a 110ah AGM battery using the 90ah AGM replacement function for the FW 530?

The 110 Ah battery will be chronically undercharged utilizing the 90 Ah setting. This will reduce battery life but the vehicle will function.

Hmm, so it only allows for registering and.not programming or coding. Maybe another user has had success and can offer advice. I used Carly a few years ago and all options were available even though there were only a few capacity choices.
