Hi all I have recently purchased 2008 X5 3.0D and am slowly working my way through its operations
The only issue to date is the nav system it will not recognise the cd. I have checked that it is not damaged and is the latest version but get the error message insert cd
Any suggestions as to known issues before I take it to the dealer to diagnose fault and apply for a second mortgage on the house boat and anything else I own.
How do I find out what features are installed in my car I find the the manual is next to useless unless you know what is installed etc.
No doubt I will have more questions as I venture on the BMW journey. I am very impressed with how the car handles and performs my previous ride was /is until sold 2004 Landrover Discovery 2 TD5 great car and very capable but I do not use its 4wd capabilities so have upped the anti in luxury with out forgoing ability to take me where I want to go
.
Looking forward to learning for the brains trust on this site
I am located in a small country town in NSW Australia with a lot of dirt roads to negotiate.
cheers Keith

You can use this VIN decoder to look up the car options.

I wouldn't spend a dime on the navi. I don't remember last time I used it, I always use my smart phone.

Consider opening the drive on the nav and cleaning the optical drive. Over time, dust can make its way in there leading to errors. Low cost if you DIY (and take care.)

If you need new hardware, take your time to understandd the options- paying $$ to fix that 2008 vintage system is crazy. There have been 3 upgrades since then.

Welcome to xoutpost!

Oh a small town in NSW? A big place with an amazing range ..... Sydney to White cliffs. A big fan of Oz, been close to 20 times...

stick a can of air duster into the cd mechanism and blow carefully, lift off the layer of dust on the laser lens. Make sure you plug in the air tube so the air is focused.
