^ yeah, I was using the old name which is a german direct translation as I recall.
You can look at cyl to cyl variation...and look it it as the rpm changes. If something is happening on only one or a few cyl, it tells you something. Also where in the RPM band |

I just fixed a very very similar problem on my client's e90.
I was getting cam over retarded errors, which usually means cam sensors. Replaced both and no change, but started to get a specific vanos related code for intake cam. With 150k miles, would not be surpassing to need to replace the vanos solenoids, but didn't want to part canon just yet, so I took out both and cleaned and swapped when I put back in. The error returned but stayed on intake cylinder. My wife's e53 with m54 had a very similar set of vanos errors and I read can be oil filter related so I bought a new filter and holy crap the old one was toast! Clearly was done oil sneaking around the filter. Wife's error cleared immediately so I did oil+ filter on client's N52 as well hoping for the best. Bummer: no luck and now I'm getting misfires on cylinder one. So I get a new code still related to vanos but was specific. I duck duck'd the code and found a YouTube video showing how the oil filter CAP can break where it will allow oil to bypass the filter. Replaced the cap, problems all vaporized! So: pull your cap: if the basket that goes into the filter media wiggles side to side it's shot! Your symptoms sound extremely similar to my client's e90, and we both hope that's the problem!

I missed if you replaced cam sensors.
Does your scan tool allow for real-time monitoring of cam angle? Requested vs. actual? You may have the exact problem I was having but not quite enough to trip ses. Also: using recommended weight of oil?

In prior cars, you could do a vanos function test. It would set target and achieved. And you are correct it would ID issues before they got to Cel status. But also the symptoms would be mild....

I'd bet real money that the alternator is dying! I had the EXACT same codes, symptoms, etc on my 2008 X5 when the alternator was dying and I got a rebuilt from Autozone and the problem persisted. I purchased a new Valeo (Original Equipment Manufacturer), replaced it again and all those issues went away! Unfortunately, the problem with the alternators (even though they looked like they were charging) was the root of the problem. Funny thing about the Autozone was the rebuilder messed up the electronics so it wouldn't talk to the E70 properly and would still throw those errors.

+1 on check the alternator. Having my 6 mo. since replacement fail and the warranty replacement failure within 20 min. I used Bosch for the first two replacements, but since my valeo lasted 187,000 miles and the Bosch lasted six months then 20 minutes I asked if I could exchange the second Bosch for Valeo. O'Reilly let me do it with $5 difference. If you have a peak reading multimeter you can catch any blips in the voltage output.

Were the Bosch rebuilds or new? I ask as I found that both O'Reilly and Autozone in this area are using the same rebuilder and just packaging them for the specific chain. Plus they are making mistakes with the rebuilds. Had O'Reilly also replace the alternator for my 318ti under warranty 6 times in the past year (they tried to blame the car but I proved it wasn't the problem) after having a rebuilt from them for 6 years without issue for the same car. Ended up buying a Valeo for the ti too. But they still refused to blame their rebuilder, eve though I've found a lot of people in the area that have had similar issues over the last two or three years.

It appeared to be an internal fault on the VR. I was concerned that a low resistance on the "battery light" terminal could have killed the VR since all the how to test videos are sure to caution that if you short that terminal not through a lamp you can kill the VR.
I opened the failed bosch rebuilt and it looked perfect inside, I suspect a bad lot of VR to blame and can't really blame the builder unless they used non Bosch VR in the rebuild. Anyhow I'm a big fan of Bosch but would take a lot of convincing for me to use another Bosch alternator. When your car is out of commission 3 weeks and you finally get time to fix it and it dies again after 20 minutes that's a tough one to get over.

Hey Guys,
I really appreciate all the ideas and feedback! It's still not fixed but some progress has been made. Since my first post I have done the following:
So today I had my wife drive the car while I monitored different variables, especially the "Rough running value" for all 6 cylinders (I believe this is the "run unrest" test that ard mentioned). Unfortunately all cylinders seem to randomly show high/low values so it's not very conclusive as far as I can tell. I screen recorded this and more off of my phone and uploaded it to YT: List of theories:
