Oil for 35d?

I'm heading out of town this week and my X needs a quart of oil. Going to do an oil change when I get back. Been looking around see some people use use 5w-30, 5w-40 and 0w-30. For the diesels out there, what do you use? I need to locate a quart before I leave. Owners manual says 5w-30 but read they replaced it with 0w-30. I'm stumped.

Oil for 35d?

I had the same question to top off wife's 50i.

I happened to find resource online that showed that I could use 5-30 or 5-40 (which is impossible to find locally). I happened to have 5-30 I use in my m54 so I used that.

More research involved before I do a full exchange with the n63. I think you are in nearly the same sitting m situation and I would follow the manual unless you are in a very cold environment.

The engine won't care whether its 5-30, 0-30, or 5-40 if just topping off with a quart

I'd be safe with a 5-30 but I have been using 5w-40 Rotella T6 since the vehicle had 40k miles - I also am in the South so I see some decent temps compared to Chicago in the summer

Thanks for the input. I went ahead on got a quart of 0w-30 on amazon, only one that will arrive on time. Can't find any locally. I'll order the 5w-30 when I get back and do the oil change.

According to the paper work, last oil change was done at at Crevier BMW in CA, BMW ll04 5w-30. I can't find any approved BMW ll04 oil locally.

Another vote for Rotella T6 5w40. Use it in our e70 diesel for the last 3 oil changes (~18k miles). It lacks BMW's LL04 requirement and from what I've read on the interwebs has slightly higher ash content (1%) vs the LL04 requirement for certification of 0.8%. But it's locally sourced at Wal-Mart and Oreillys so I use it anyway.

If looking for a technically correct fluid (one that is LL04 certified) I was able to find Pentosin High Performance II at Advanced Auto Parts a couple of days ago. Needed it for my dads 535d that he wanted me to do a few maintenance items on. Not cheap though, want to say it was ~$80 for the 7qts of oil.

Liqimoly would work, we have at least two Auto Parts stores that carry it here. LL04 specs

I used to get the oil for the 35d from getBMWparts, cheaper than any other options I considered.
