Need HELP ASAP, 2008 X5 4.8 no start, other problems

2008 BMW x5 4.8

This thing has been strange since we purchased it used.

About a week or so ago the GF complained that her comfort access would not unlock the car, she tried the fob and the buttons did nothing. she used the metal key to unlock the door and get inside where she had to insert the key fob into dash for vehicle to start.

car shows random high battery drain icon when start up. I have witnessed this once but seems to happen to her more as she drives it daily.

rear seat entertainment is INOP!

vehicle died on her driving to work one day, I came and found battery exhausted. used jumper cables to charge battery along side road and within 15 min it started up and drove fine for days. happened again about a week later. Removed alternator and found one of the brushes worn down not making good contact, replaced regulator with New FCP Euro part. Alt works great now. Also replaced the IBS due to some corrosion on the terminal. We have been driving this vehicle for weeks with a voltage gauge installed in the front charging port of center console to monitor voltage, remains at 13.8 to 14.0 all the time when running. Battery is 1 year old.

two days ago she ran into a flock of birds and destroyed the pass mirror, continued to drive to work and at lunch called me and said the vehicle will not go into reverse, or drive. pops back into neutral. after several min it did go into reverse and I drove it rest of after noon and returned it to her work. later that night got a call saying that out of blue the DSC, ABS, BRAKE lamps came on and the car was feeling funny. I asked her to pull over and shut car off, restart and see if lights go out. She did and the vehicle would not start!!!! motor spun over fast, but no start. I drove to get her and when I got there the car started fine, gauge shows 14.0v and I drove it home.

There were no lights on the dash, but when I accelerated the car felt as if it went into neutral, the green light next to "D" went out for a split second. then ABS, DSC, BRAKE lamps lit up and car would not accelerate hard.

parked for night, checked faults and found multiple buss system faults, and again the car will not start, just spins motor over but no start. it also shows oil level malfunction, and changed my CBS data to 250 miles till oil change is due. (two days ago it was 4500 miles left)

002F45 DME:Interface EWS-DME

BSD communication faults for oil level sensor, alt, and ibs

JBE supply

FRM short circuit monitoring

No communicion with transfer case

no message recieved from EGS

the strange thing is if I clear faults, Test again I get a complete different set of faults it seems. mostly communicaion faults.

ran test plan for all and checked all the powers and grounds as per test plan found nothing. most test plans say to replace the module.

So if I let car go to sleep it will start one time and if I shut it off will not start again.

I am believing the JBE may be to blame, after reading other peoples complaints with the jbe module it seems to follow the symptoms.

HELP

Symptoms sounds like water in bad places causing buss errors galore.

I would start by testing for parasitic drain that likely was the origin of hard starts that was just masked by a new battery.

Check the grounds. There should be one for the DME under the hood (right side cowl near the cabin filter), one from the lower engine block to frame rail near the left (driver side) motor mount best accessed through the fender well or under the vehicle, and another from the battery to the body. All should be tight and corrosion free, any white or green crust and the cable should be replaced.

Hate to tell you this but the Voltage Regulator (though it is from FCP) isn't communicating properly to the systems. Had the same issues with a replacement alternator on my '08 X5. Charged fine (supposedly) new battery, but problem after problem including your exact errors. Replaced with a NEW Valeo alternator, all problems went away. The E70 is super finicky with alternators and batteries.

HELP
Did you ever solve this? @andrewwynn mentioned possible water ingress... When I had similar issues with my E70, it was a water ingress situation into the trunk, the side of the fuses. Drained out, dried with hair drier, sealed the culprit area on rear tail gate and all issues disappeared.
