Anyone repaired a ZF8HP70X?
I have put about 5 quarts of oil but since it won't go into gear I can finish the filling procedure. Anyone out there had this happened to them? I just ordered a set of ZF solenoids to replace then anyway but I even took the transmission to a person that builds ZF for modified engines and he said all of the mechanical work was ok. He didn't had a way to check the electronics. Ideas? I'm getting tired of paying for a rental (two months so far!) since my older BMW is in the middle of an engine rebuild which hasn't been getting attention because of the E70 transmission. |

It feels external like wiring or whatever sensors the XM uses for determine which gear since no gear shift. Were it me I'd probably borrow a gear request knob from a compatible car. Mine came from a different e70 as mine failed. The one i got from my wife's prev car alao e70 was not original. They are not uncommon to fail. See what Chat GPT had to say. I'll add to the chat if you get me more feedback. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I used my Foxwell NT510 scanner and read the GWS (Gearshift selector) but there are no codes stored. I have ISTA but haven't used it yet so need to read the guide to learn to connect. I have the BimmerGeeks cable that I purchased to get the transmission coded. I guess I'll see if I can get another shifter from the pick-a-part this Friday and test that. I'll report back once I have done this test.

The foxwell will realtime show the 4-5 switch positions for your gear selector switch. A switch not closing won't show an error but it definitely won't go into gear.
There are two switch positions front and rear start there.

Yep, that's what I did using the live data option. All of them tested ok (status changed in the scanner).

A thought: the egs came from used: any chance that they both have the same problem?
Can you read L1-4 values? That's what the car wants to see but it shouldn't even start if it can't see park/neutral. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Yes, I did the live data and every button pushed resulted in an instant status change in the scanner (unlock, R, D, Sport and P). |

Enter EGS / Electronic Transmission Control.
Open Live Data and look for values resembling: * Selector-lever request / GWS position * Requested drive position * Actual transmission position * Parking-lock status * Brake-pedal status * Transmission input/output speed I should be able to do the same on my car and you can compare to see where there are different. Not sure if you are confused but I said that I did enter into EGS and tested the live data and all of the functions changed status so all switches and communications are working properly. Except since mine doesn't want to shift into drive I can't see any output speed. I did see the input speed change as I revved the engine in parking though.
