Well, in the current BMW V8 car lineup for 5 & 7-series in the U.S, there is no more 4.4i engine. It is currently the 750i & 550i which is the 4.8iS engine. So the 4.8 liter engine will take the market position of the X5 4.4i just as "size 2 is the new size 0, and size 6 is the new size 14"
Most likely, the new X5 will be heavier and performance wise will take a hit unless you increase HP/Torque. For next year 5-series, there will be a 535i (3.0 liter twin-turbo 300hp) & still the 550i. I believe there will also have a 528i (3.0 liter engine from the 525i with 15 more hp) For 2007 3-series, there will be a 328i & 335i. 2007 X3 will get a 260hp version of the 3.0 liter engine based on the 2006 330i engine (3.0 liter engine with that special intake) Too bad no X3 with the 3.0 liter twin turbo....it would be ripping fast!

I now have a 2005 4.8. Does anybody know if a "4.8" type car will be offered with 20 inch wheels, all the bells and whistles, etc. or will it just be a "4.4" version with a bigger engine. Current price difference between 4.4 and 4.8 is quite a bit. Is it possible BMW will later offer a "4.8" upgraded version. I don't want to buy a new 2007 4.8 and find out that later an upgraded model will be offered. Naturally my dealer has no information at all.

Any idea about prices for European buyers ? Hope not too far from actually prices. But MB ML is 51500 € in 280 CDI and BMW will certainly not be lower...but Audi Q7 is "only" 49500 €... Hope hope... Wait and see

Looks pretty good, but nothing about it that would make me want to trade up. I'm also not a fan of the E60-based interior...I prefer look and feel of the current one, although some of the tech upgrades would be nice. I saw an Imola red 4.8is the other day and it reminded me just how good looking the current X5 is.
That said, there's always the craving for more power. So...I'll have to take a look at the V8 turbo when it comes out and decide between that and supercharging my current one.
