Question Aluminium Hood to soft?

I heard that the boys at Top Gear had dented the hood (bonnet) when closing it during a test run. Anyone else have such a problem?

The reason it would be soft is for the European Pedestrian Crash Safety Standards, I guess.
How do you dent a hood when closing it? Jeremy must have slammed it...

Wasn't there that person who had an accident in his brand new X5, and there was a surprising amount of damage...........

For some reason, I'm getting the nagging feeling that this BMW isnt as........solid (?) as previous BMWs.

to me, they used to be more bulgy and creased everywhere...

now body panels are sort of plain and rounded.

trueX5er, he apparently left two hand sized dents as he closed it.

I just remember something about hoods being soft enough so it a car hits you, your head is cusioned.

I mentioned that a while back when someone did a review. I believe it's made of Aluminum. Thin stuff. When i first saw it and opened the hood i was surprised at how cheap it felt.

Exactly the same way I felt when I lifted that hood, feels like I'm lifting a piece of paper compare to E53's hood. They should really get rid of the aluminum hood, so what if it's few hundred pounds heavier, I rather have a stronger hood/fenders.

BMW wanted to reduce the overall weight but.... some things should not be compromised. Now I need to look my hood over.

I checked the hood the other day as I walked up and to the passenger side of the logo... there is a slight depression!!!!!! Like someone pushed it with their palm!
