Good news for 08 - Illumnated Light switch

Looks like X5's built after 20 May 07 should have the light switches illiminated in the overhead console... noticed this when browsing some SIB bulletins.. Unfortunately there is no retrofit ...and my car was produced prior to this...!!

SUBJECT
Interior Light Switch Illumination

MODEL
E70 (X5)

Vehicles produced from start of production to May 19, 2007

SITUATION
The interior light switches in the Roof Functions Center (FZD) do not illuminate when the vehicle lights are turned on.

GENERAL INFORMATION
[GRUSB6307U87.JPG]Please be aware that this is normal operation. Vehicles produced up to May 19, 2007 do not have this function.
An attempt to upgrade a customer vehicle to the new functionality either by parts replacement or coding is not possible.
WARRANTY INFORMATION

Thanks for sharing.. I noticed people complained about this but mine had the illumination so thought it was due to having the 'light package', now I know, mine is an '07 August build.

BMW ignored lighting many important places.

Dome lights in the rear & and wiper switch behind steering wheel do not get illuminated.

Locating them in the dark is really hard!

Since when were stalks illuminated? Do you need the cruise and turn signal stalk illuminated as well?

I don't know what the Germans were thinking.

"Nein, der engine temperatur ist not important. No need for gauge. But ze light switch must haf a light. And die cupholders must be big for ze Amerikans"

And it could be me being picky, but the switches are starting to lose their quality feel. On the X3 and old 3-series, when you hit the light switch, there was a reassuring "click". But on the E90, its just........not there anymore. Same goes for the steering wheel buttons.
