Angry X5 arrived today.... straight to service!!! - UPDATED 12/14/07!

So after I had the issue that the train where my X5 was on was hugely delayed, today it finally arrived. So when we get to the part that my CA is about to show me how to work everything, he turns on the car, and it sputtered bad before it went on. So he turned it off, turned it back on and this time it was fine.

So after he was going over things with the car on, I decided to turn it off, turn it back on and it sputtered again. My CA called the SA so he can hear it and he said that it could be the fact that the fuel is circulating still or filling up where it should be.

So I turned it off and turned it back on four or five straight times and it sputtered four out of the five times.

So the SA said I could take it back tomorrow when I picked up my 335 (which by the way I just purchased last month, but I took today as well to get a loud fan checked out)

At the moment I agreed to take it to get it checked out tomorrow, so the CA went ahead with showing me everything else.

When he got to the point where he's showing me the different functions of the driver's seat, he reclines the top half of the back rest and as he's doing so, there's a loud crack!

I look at the back portion of the back seat, and a plastic part that meets with the leather back of the seat, had broken and ripped a corner of the leather!!!

At that point I said I'm not taking delivery of the X5 until everything is checked at.

So, I had to not only take in my month old 335 today (only have 160 miles on it - I didn't drive it at all really in a month, obviously) but I couldn't even bring my new X5 4.8!!!

Sorry guys, just had to vent!!

ouch. we all feel for you! You certainly did the right thing to not accept, though. As impatient as we can feel, we shouldn't ever accept inferior quality because we are paying way too much for these cars to accept anything but the best. Please feel free to vent. This is an understanding community, here!

Thanks swesson...

Here's what bothers me though, and please feel free to tell me I'm crazy. Now, because of what happened and the fact that it's in service already, I don't feel that "new" feeling with it. Crazy I know, but that's what I feel.

I didn't even to get to experience that "newness" (word?)

BTW, went I got in for the first time, that new car smell was ABSOLUTELY NOWHERE TO BE FOUND!

When I picked up my 335 Coupe last month... new smell all the way. Not with the X5... anyone else noticed this?

I picked my X5 up at the end of October. It smelled like new. Still does. Since you didn't accept delivery, I suppose you could say that you want a new car. I don't have any experience with this kind of thing, but perhaps some of the other members here have. Hang out for a bit and see what others may add..

Well, I didn't accept delivery in the sense that I did not bring it with me, but I issued them my check for full payment.

Additionally, there was another X5 that came in and it also lacked that smell!!

It only had 16 miles on it and I saw it come in with all the plastics on the seats.

And if I were to demand another one, then I'd have to wait another five weeks or more...

If you lobby for a new vehicle, they will probably offer you some kind of incentive to take delivery of this one. The choice will ultimately be yours. Once you sign and drive, you own it. Give it some thought......Phil

Well I signed, but I didn't drive... does that count?

Yes that counts....so at this point, trying to lobby for a new one won't work. At least try to get a key chain or polo shirt to help with your experience....Phil

Thanks Phil, but to be honest with you... both my CA and SA have been great. And I'm already getting a bunch of freebies: two sets of cuff links, a coffe mug, a hat and another set of matts for both cars (rubber)

Oh and I forgot to mention that while I was there, my wife parked in a meter without money, and I got a parking ticket.... so before I left I handed it to my CA and told him to take care of it....

so over all I think they're doing enough already... I simply am dissappointed!! This being the first time ever I buy BMW, and the fact that I bought two at the same time.... I just expected more!
