Acceleration Lag in 3.0 & 4.8?

I read on other forums that people are experiencing a lag (about 1 second or so) prior to initial acceleration. Often times the problem appears hundreds of miles after they have took deliver of the car. And has been attributed to the transmission adapting to the driving style of the driver.

I'm taking into account that this lag might be subjective, so I've gone out to test drive the 4.8 a few times to see if I can imitate this experience. Often times driving more aggressively and other times more relaxed. I've even noted driving it in the two different modes using the sports button below the shifter. (The DS mode, by moving the shifter is just crazy awesome. No lag whatsoever). Till now, all my experiences with the 4.8 has not reproduced the lag. (Great news to my ears).

For kicks, I tried the 3.0 yesterday. And the lag was completely noticeable and unacceptable! Yikes!

My question is: How many people with 4.8 have experienced this lag (or have not experienced this lag)?

My 2007 3.0si had lag, my 2008 4.8i does not have any lag.

I'm surprised there's lag in a 335i. The twin turbo should do away with that. All reviews say how impressed they are with no lad. Odd.

Test drove both 3.0 & 4.8, experienced the lag in both. I still bought it hoping it would be better and while it's still there, I've adapted to driving expecting it to be there so I'm a little heavier on initial acceleration, which makes up for it and it no longer bothers me at all.

i test drove a 4.8 prior to purchase and did notice a bit of lag on a demo vehicle with just over 10k miles on it...

my 3.0si has the very same lag (a fraction of a second) but only when i stomp the gas hard... in smoother acceleration (progressively pressing the gas as i'm accelerating) i'm actually quicker and there's no lag... it's pretty fast...

on DS mode...no lag whatsoever... pulls hard and with no hesitation..

Thanxs guys for the replies. Does anyone consistently drive in DS mode in a 3.0/4.8? What are your average MPG's in doing so? Please also state which model 3.0/4.8.

i have the 3.0d and whenever i need to accelereate hard, i shift in ds mode, but when i need to coast or relax then normal d is fine..

i have driven 2050 km, and with ds mode i get about 15mpg (i converted from metric units - 6.4km/litre)

highway i get about 12 km/litre which is about 30mpg..

Drive by wire has been the definition, or rather the cause... it has to send a signal and let's just say it's not an instant response, especially compared with older cars. Coming from a '95 vehicle, the difference in response time is night and day.

would a grounding kit (for the engine) do away with the lag, because my friend got the new mitsubishi lancer and he had the same "lag" he but a grounding kit on it, and (supposedly) theres no more lag... and now he spanks me off the line...

the grounding kit is supposed to even out negative with positives, anbd optimizes all electric stuff in the vrehicle...
