Is this a Scam? Craigslist listing of an X5 for sale...

OK, someone (it says a dealer) has a 2007 X5 4.8 for sale on Craigslist...ad says vehicle just came off lease from BMW California. Good price.

Also says quote..."In Just Driven Off the Lot Condition ~ the 2 headlights are inop" which I take to mean the headlights are not working.

Sport and Premium package. 9,000 miles.

I email him and ask which dealership so I can come by and see it...he emails back that it is at his house, just call.

In the photos on Craigslist, the wheels definitely look like 18" style 210 wheels....

If this proves true, what could possibly be the reason a sport 4.8 does not have the correct wheels? Sounds fishy to me.

The first tip off that something is fishy is that BMW leases are held by BMWFS, and they're located in Ohio, not California.

I forgot to mention. The steering wheel has the aluminum trim, so I assume the sport package is true...that is why the 18" style 210's confuse me....

it has sport, you can tell by the black headliner, sport seats, titanium lower grille.

what confuses me is that it doesn't have titanium kidney grilles (standard on 4.8i)
it looks like it has style 57 17in wheels from 2001-2003 X5 non sports
but it has the stainless steel 4.8i tips

4.8i sport tires are summer-only. 4.8i base 18" tires are style 209s I believe, not even those. Since it says in CO, he probably has these alternate 18s on as a winter tire but the car definitely has sport. Regardless, this shouldn't be the deciding factor of a scam. Obviously not the sport tires though. Not sure about the whole CA lease thing.

The biggest thing I'd be worried about is the '07 model year being the first-year run... electronic and fitment issues (creaks/non-closures) if not already fixed. Lots of people may have been fed up with the problems and decide to sell.

If you're really in the market, carfax, take a good in-person look at it and also ask where the 19s or 20s are.

I can see the tires and wheels might be winter for climate here...but is this correct that the grill does not match for 4.8 sport?

Bring a paint thickness meter with you when you check it out in person to see if it's been in any accidents.

Seems fishy - why don't the headlights work?
