extended warranty anyone? (warranty direct, etc.)
I am only at 900 miles right now and was going to see how many problems I'm having within a year but obviously with limited use I'm in the clear so far but it's hard to gauge. How have your experiences been and will you be considering some sort of extended warranty based on ownership so far? I know people with older E53s would probably have a different opinion, or maybe not. The longer I wait, the higher the cost of the warranty. BTW, I don't believe it covers maintenance such as oil changes... only problems should they arise at all.

rh,
Come back and re-ask the question in 3 1/2 years or 48,000 miles... things change: I've seen dozens of people come on this board and others, raving that their X is the car of a lifetime, blah, blah, blah, only to read they have tossed it for something else or, they just disappear. I'm not betting you won't have yours, but it's way premature for the question, a waste of money, up front, to buy any ext warranty this soon, and ya'll thinking about stuff you don't need to worry about at this stage of your car's life, imo. My 2Cts... PS/Edit: WD is charging in the neighborhood of 3-4Gs, now...it will be more in 2011. But, why throw 3Gs at it now? Not transferrable and akin to the ext warranties on TVs at BestBuy, imo. When you get "closer" it may be a consideration. You're correct on Maintenance; it's a sep deal from BMW, as you should know from the hundreds of pages of posts on both topics.

i opted for the extended warranty and the extended service. it was thru the dealer. took delivery 12-22-07 and i have 7900 miles on my truck. at that rate i would be out of warranty in two years or less.
@ 60k miles you will need the CV joints & boots replaced typically. i am covered 5 years or 100k so i felt i would get at least four years under warranty. service may not have been such a spectacular deal, but i figure if it is at the dealer for service they will do any software updates that might happen to come up. and if i decide it is a heap and pitch it, the warranty is refundable. |

I chose buy the extended warranty but passed on the maintenance & tire/wheel. 7 year warranty for about $2700 I think. I figured that at least it will help when it's time to resell since it is transferrable. BTW, $100 deductible.
